"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel
together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let
us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have
them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and
vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my
holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said
unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of
me, and I shall give the heathen for thine inheritance, and the
uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break
them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a
potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed,
ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with
trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the
way, when his wrath is kindled but a little, Blessed are all they
that put their trust in him." <> Psalm 2

"Now listen, you descendants of Abraham! Pay attention, all of you
Gentiles who are here to worship God! Listen to this message about
how to be saved, because it is for everyone. The people of Jerusalem
and their leaders didn't realize who Jesus was. And they didn't
understand the words of the prophets that they read each Sabbath.
So they condemned Jesus just as the prophets had said. They did
exactly what the Scriptures said they would. Even though they
couldn't find any reason to put Jesus to death, they still asked
Pilate to have him killed. After Jesus had been put to death, he
was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb. But God raised
him from death! Then for many days Jesus appeared to his followers
who had gone with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. Now they are telling
our people about him. God made a promise to our ancestors. And we are
here to tell you the good news that he has kept this promise to us.
It is just as the second Psalm says about Jesus, "You are my son
because today I have become your Father." God raised Jesus from
death and will never let his body decay. It is just as God said,
"I will make to you the same holy promise that I made to David." CEV
"Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among
you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. For they
that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not,
nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day,
they have fulfilled them in condemning him. And though they found no
cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him
down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him
from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him
from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And
we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made
unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in
that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second
psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as
concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to
corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of
David." KJV
"Brothers - you sons of Abraham, and also all of you Gentiles here
who reverence God - this salvation is for all of us! The Jews in
Jerusalem and their leaders fulfilled prophecy by killing Jesus;
for they didn't recognize him or realize that he is the one the
prophets had written about, though they heard the prophets' words
read every Sabbath. They found no just cause to execute him, but
asked Pilate to have him killed anyway. When they had fulfilled
all the prophecies concerning his death, he was taken from the cross and placed in a tomb. But God brought him back to life
again! And he was seen many times during the next few days by
the men who had accompanied him to Jerusalem from Galilee - these
men have constantly testified to this in public witness. And now
Barnabas and I are here to bring you this Good News - that God's
promise to our ancestors has come true in our own time, in that
God brought Jesus back to life again. This is what the second
Psalm is talking about when it says concerning Jesus, 'Today I
have honored you as my Son.' For God had promised to bring him
back to life again, no more to die. This is stated in the
Scripture that says, 'I will do for you the wonderful thing I
promised David.'" LBV
"My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others
among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has
been sent. The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed
to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles
of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath. For even
though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked
Pilate to have him put to death, and when they had accomplished all
that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and
placed him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for
many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee
to Jerusalem. These are (now) his witnesses before the people.
We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what God
promised our ancestors he has brought to fulfillment for us,
(their) children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the
second psalm, 'You are my son; this day I have begotten you.'
And that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption
he declared in this way, 'I shall give you the benefits assured to
David.' NAB
"Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those of you who are
not Jews who worship God, listen! The news about this salvation has
been sent to us. Those who live in Jerusalem and their leaders did
not realize that Jesus was the Savior. They did not understand the
words that the prophets wrote, which are read every Sabbath day.
But they made them come true when they said Jesus was guilty. They
could not find any real reason for Jesus to be put to death, but
they asked Pilate to have him killed. When they had done to him
all that the Scriptures had said, they took him down from the cross
and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him up from the dead! After
this, for many days, those who had gone with Jesus from Galilee to
Jerusalem saw him. They are now his witnesses to the people. We
tell you the Good News about the promise God made to our ancestors.
God has made this promise come true for us, his children, by raising
Jesus from the dead. We read about this also in Psalm 2: 'You are my
Son. Today I have become your Father.' God raised Jesus from the
dead, and he will never go back to the grave and become dust. So
God said: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings that I
promised to David.' NCV
