"The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your
midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you
desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly,
saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let
me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.' And the Lord said to me:
What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet
like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth,
and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be
that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I
will require it of him. <> Deuteronomy 18:15-19
"And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy
fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out
of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an
house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for
ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit
iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the
stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away
from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And
thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee:
thy throne shall be established for ever. According to all these
words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto
David." <> II Samuel 7:12-17
"Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said,
This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world." <> John 6:14
"Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said,
Truly this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some
said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said,
That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of
Bethlehem, where David was?" <> John 7:40-42
"This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, The Lord your
God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him
you shall hear." <> Acts 7:37
"I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will
I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. For I have said,
Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish
in the very heavens. I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have
sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build
up thy throne to all generations. Selah." <> Psalms 89:4
"The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of
the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. If thy children will
keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their
children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. For the LORD hath
chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for
ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless
her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will also clothe
her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for
mine anointed. His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself
shall his crown flourish. <> Psalms 132:11-18
"But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared:
The LORD of hosts is his name. And I have put my words in thy mouth,
and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant
the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion,
Thou art my people." <> Isaiah 51:15-16
"And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be
their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found
David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall
fulfil all my will. Of this man's seed hath God according to his
promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: When John had first
preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people
of Israel. And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye
that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose
shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose. Men and brethren,
children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God,
to you is the word of this salvation sent. For they that dwell at
Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the
voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have
fulfilled them in condemning him. And though they found no cause of
death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. And
when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down
from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from
the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him
from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And
we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made
unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children,
in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the
second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as
concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return
to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies
of David. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not
suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had
served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was
laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: But he, whom God raised
again, saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and
brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness
of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things,
from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware
therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your
days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare
it unto you. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the
Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next
sabbath. Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews
and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to
them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. And the next
sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of
God. <> Acts 13:22-44

"From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus. God chose me to be an apostle,
and he appointed me to preach the good news that he promised long ago
by what his prophets said in the holy Scriptures. This good news is
about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! As a human, he was from the
family of David. But the Holy Spirit a proved that Jesus is the
powerful Son of God, because he was raised from death. Jesus was kind
to me and chose me to be an apostle, so that people of all nations
would obey and have faith. You are some of those people chosen by
Jesus Christ. This letter is to all of you in Rome. God loves you
and has chosen you to be his very own people. I pray that God our
Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless
you with peace!" CEV
"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated
unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in
the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which
was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be
the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the
resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and
apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in Rome,
beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our
Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ." KJV
"Dear friends in Rome: This letter is from Paul, Jesus Christ's slave,
chosen to be a missionary, and sent out to preach God's Good News. This
Good News was promised long ago by God's prophets in the Old Testament.
It is the Good News about his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who came as
a human baby, born into King David's royal family line; and by being
raised from the dead he was proved to be the mighty Son of God, with
the holy nature of God himself. And now, through Christ, all the
kindness of God has been poured out upon us undeserving sinners; and
now he is sending us out around the world to tell all people everywhere
the great things God has done for them, so that they, too, will believe
and obey him. And you, dear friends in Rome, are among those he dearly
loves; you, too, are invited by Jesus Christ to be God's very own-yes,
his holy people. May all God's mercies and peace be yours from God our
Father and from Jesus Christ our Lord." LBV
"Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set
apart for the gospel of God, which he promised previously through his
prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel about his Son, descended
from David according to the flesh, but established as Son of God in
power according to the spirit of holiness through resurrection from
the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we have received the
grace of apostleship, to bring about the obedience of faith, for the
sake of his name, among all the Gentiles, among whom are you also, who
are called to belong to Jesus Christ; to all the beloved of God in Rome,
called to be holy. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ." NAB
"From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus. God called me to be an apostle
and chose me to tell the Good News. God promised this Good News long
ago through his prophets, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures.
The Good News is about God's Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. As a man, he
was born from the family of David. But through the Spirit of holiness
he was appointed to be God's Son with great power by rising from the
dead. Through Christ, God gave me the special work of an apostle,
which was to lead people of all nations to believe and obey. I do this
work for him. And you who are in Rome are also called to belong to
Jesus Christ. To all of you in Rome whom God loves and has called to
be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ." NCV
"Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle,
separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His
prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our
Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and
declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Through Him we have
received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all
nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus
Christ; To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
