The key of David |
The prophecy about the 2,300 days in Daniel 8:13-14 shows that the true
cosmology, the knowledge of the structure of the solar system, and the
basic nature of the universe, would be understood in the mid eighteenth
century, 2,300 years from the date of the vision (Daniel 8:1). That is
when the 'sanctuary' of God was 'set right' or justified (Daniel 8:12).
There is no other ancient document which foretold the scientific
revolution in astronomy in such a comprehensive way. And since it was
one of the most philosophically profound discoveries in man's history,
this prophecy of Daniel 8 is highly significant, and should be carefully
examined by everyone. God gives light and understanding, and it is God
who enlightens men, or keeps the truth hidden from them.
The 'sanctuary' of Daniel 8:11 is heaven, or the universe, where the
stars, and the 'host of heaven' are located (see Daniel 8:10). In this
prophecy, a horn of the male goat grows up to heaven, and casts down
stars and the host of heaven, and the place of God's sanctuary (Heb.
'mikdash') to the earth, and tramples them. The Hebrew word 'mikdash'
means 'sacred place, sanctuary, holy place'.
The horn of the goat cast down truth to the earth, and the 'continual'
was 'raised up on high', as the text should read in verse 11, instead
of: "the daily sacrifice was taken away". The word 'tamiyd' means
'continual', or 'daily', or 'perpetual'. The word 'ruwm' means 'to rise,
rise up, be high, be lofty, be exalted', or 'be set on high', or 'to
lift up'.
This prophecy is not about sacrifices or burnt offerings! It has to do
with the history of the cosmology of the Bible, and reveals a systematic
corruption of the cosmology of the Bible, pictured by the horn casting
the truth to the ground.
Antiochus IV, a Seleucid king of Syria in the 2nd century BC, is
represented by the horn of the goat. He initiated the changes in the
cosmology of the Jewish scriptures as part of his hellenization
campaign. Daniel's prophecy shows the meaning of the Hebrew word 'raqia'
in Genesis 1:8 was changed; it was redefined as heaven, whereas before,
it referred to the crust of the earth that was formed in the midst of
the waters. This revision of the cosmology of the scriptures is pictured
by the stars and 'place of God's sanctuary' being cast to the ground by
the horn of the goat. The change was accomplished by the addition of
"And God called the firmament Heaven" in Genesis 1:8 (or its equivalent
in Hebrew).
The Bible scholars missed the significance of Daniel's prophecy and
misunderstood what it was about. Some claimed it was a fraud written
after the events occurred, and inserted "sacrifice" or "burnt offering"
to support their views. Their conclusions are absurd; following the
ancient pagan anti Christian writer Porphyry, they claimed Daniel's
prophecy foretold a temporary lapse of an obscure temple ritual, that
could not possibly have had any sigificance for people in another age,
and would be a pointless subject for Daniel's prophecy. They set aside
the words of Jesus, who called Daniel a prophet, and referred to his
prophecy of the 'abomination of desolation' as yet future. Unless Jesus
opens one's mind, he will not understand Daniel's prophecy! Daniel 12:10
says "none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand."
That the prophecy was accurately fulfilled cannot be disputed. It
clearly shows that God is able to keep things hidden from man until he
wants to reveal them.
Isaiah 22:22
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he
shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Revelation 3:7
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith
he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that
openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.
