The present work of Jesus
To Read: Isaiah 31-33
To Know:
"The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of
old. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the
face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the
fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the
waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations
of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master workman; and I was daily
his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the sons of men." (Prov. 8:22,23; 27-31)
This is the computer age. Times change and so must we unless we want to be
left behind. Four hundred years ago people that had never strayed more than
ten miles from home boarded ships for newly discovered North America. In the
1830's steam began powering iron horses along a set of iron rails and within
that generation railroads connected the nation.
Telecommunications, beginning with the telegraph and telephone to satellite
TV and cell phones, have ushered in a way of life that left many in my
parents' generation in the dust. This increasingly high-tech world is user
friendly only to those in the know.
Jesus Christ ushered in a new age. By his death and resurrection he made it
possible for sinners to receive the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord is
the strength of God to create and recreate the universe. It was the Spirit
of God in response to the Word of God who did the work of God in bringing
order out of chaos. This is the Spirit of Jesus sent to all those who have
faith in his name. Jesus Christ came to remit sins and resurrect the
creation of God. The present work of the Lord Jesus is to reorder our lives
and restore creation to be a suitable habitat for the Sons of God.
