Object: The way to understand Christianity is to view it politically
Jehovah was and is always the god of Israel. The OT is about a
religion build around the Jewish state, its founding sagas, its
history, its laws and customs, its heroic models and its future hopes.
The NT is about those future hopes, i.e.messiah, son of man, kingdom
of god, that one group of jews thought were to be realized in Jesus,
who was crucified by the Rome as a wannabe king of the Jews. A claim
that NT authors vouched for by stressing Jesus' lineage from David.
Revelations is a cryptic hate filled hope for revenge against Rome,
the persecuter of Jewish messianics and the destroyer of Jerusalem and
its temple, based on Jewish apocalyses that hoped for and campaigned
for the future triumph and exaltation of Judah and devote followers of
Jehovah, their god willing,

Well that was a mouthful! ;)
There's certainly some truth in that summary, although I
have to say that it reflects a negative approach towards the
claims of Christianity. Though apocalyptic literature was a
prevalent form of literature in the time John wrote the
Revelation, this doesn't mean that there is no validity to
his prophecies. To judge the authenticity of the book, you
have to examine the prophecies themselves, and consider
whether they have a basis in historical development ever
since.
I personally believe that what John wrote actually has
determined historical development ever since, because John
creditted Jesus himself as being the source of the
Revelation. And I believe Jesus is the Son of God, has
divine authority, and can determine the outcome of history
by his own word. And if you'll look at the prophecies
themselves, you can see that they are also based in part on
the prophecy of Antichrist in the book of Daniel.
Specifically, in chapter 7 of Daniel you can see that there
will be a development of an antichristian empire with ten
nations. The end of all this will be the appearance of
Messiah from the clouds. I do see this happening in current
history. The gospel of Messiah has gone out to the whole
world in the form of Christianity. And the formerly
Christian world has gone back to seed, so to speak, and is
now becoming increasingly hostile and "antichristian." Not
only so, but the old imperialism that had belonged to the
Roman tradition has become increasingly fragmented into more
democratic political units, paving the way (I believe) for
ten significant nations that will be controlled and ruled by
Antichrist himself.
