in the Confession of Faith concerning the Holy Scripture...
I. Although the light of nature, and the works of creation and
providence, do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God,
as to leave men inexcusable; yet are they not sufficient to give that
knowledge of God, and of his will, which is necessary unto salvation;
therefore it pleased the Lord, at sundry times, and in divers
manners, to reveal himself, and to declare that his will unto his
Church; and afterwards for the better preserving and propagating of
the truth,
and for the more sure establishment and comfort of the Church
against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan and of
the world, to commit the same wholly unto writing; which maketh the
Holy Scripture to be most necessary; those former ways of God's
revealing his will unto his people being now ceased.

beyond the revelation of the existence of God as seen in His mighty
works of creation, the Holy Scriptures explain the things of God which
present an intimate knowledge of His Person and work to all who would
be called by His Name, equipping them for every good work to which
they were called.
it is plainly stated that the former ways in which God revealed His
will to His people have ceased; the Scriptures alone being sufficient
to enlighten His children by the Holy Spirit's leading them into all
truth.
this means that dreams, visions, prophetic utterances, speaking in
tongues and any such thing, is not of God. the Holy Scripture, the 66
Books which constitute the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God,
and is the only rule of the Faith of Jesus and of practice for the
chosen of God.
to practice any other form is not the revealed Word of God.
the Holy Scriptures constitutes the revealed Word of God. this Word
of God was handed down to the Prophets and Apostles, who, by God's
design, put the Word into writing, and were given through them alone,
to us.
