Yes, this was written by Kal Nasser, who is quite creative. Here
is Kal's "Top 10 Signs that You are a Christian":
TOP TEN SIGNS YOU'RE A CHRISTIAN
10- You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by
other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of
your god.
9- You feel insulted and "de-humanized" when scientists say that people
evolved from lesser life forms, but you have no problem with the
Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8- You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a
Trinity god.
7- Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed
to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God
slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus", and ordered the
elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua", including women,
children, and trees!
6- You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about
gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the
Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got
killed and came back to life and ascended into the sky.
5- You are willing to spend your life looking for little loop-holes in
the scientifically established age of the Earth (4.55 billion years),
but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by
pre-historic tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that the
Earth is a couple of generations old.
4- You believe that the entire population of this planet, with the
exception of those who share your beliefs, even including large sects
of Christians, will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering.
And yet you consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving".
3- While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have
failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the
floor speaking in "tongues" is all the evidence you need to prove
Christianity.
2- You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered
prayers. And you consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And
you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
(Which begs the question: If it's all the will of God, why the hell
pray in the first place?)
And the Top Sign that you are a Christian:
1- Most Atheists and Agnostics know a hell of a lot more about the
Bible, Christianity, and church history than you do. (Which might be an
indication of the very reason that you are still a Christian).

de·ism
n.
The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the
universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life,
exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural
revelation.
Why would anyone want to be a deist? Why would you rely on laws of
nature for everything, except the beginning of the universe? And if
you base your beliefs on reason, where does the God part come in"?
To me, it seems like an invention for people that doubt theism, but
are not quite ready yet for the implications of atheism.

universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life,

Why would anyone want to be a atheist? Don't take that offensively, but
it sounds like something a theist would come in and say, and then
everyone would say 'we don't /want/ to be atheists... it's just the only
reasonable explanation...'
I've been thinking about deism, and was personally wondering how that
works myself.
What if one thought of god (in the definition, should god be capitalized
as it is?) as simply the energy (?) that created the universe? Not
necessarily a sentient form. Not something to be worshipped or praised
any more than a zygote or gametes. But just as idly responsible for
life. (By idly I mean it didn't /try/ to create the universe, it's just
within the laws of (physics) and what 'naturally' would happen.)
By the above definition that would fly, assuming you define god as 'the
power which created the universe, by intention, design, chance or rules
that exist in it's plane of existence' or something like that.
Sadly, Dictionary.Com has no such definition.
The trouble with the last 'or' in my definition of god is you go through
infinite regress, similar to the 'well, where did God come from' or
'well, where did the Universe come from'. (God was created by his
god... Where did his god come from... well... et cetera...)
Perhaps deism is /not/ reasonable?
To me, it seems like an invention for people that doubt theism, but
are not quite ready yet for the implications of atheism.
One could look at it that way, in which case perhaps it is a stepping
stone on the way to the Truth... ? In which case it should be given
your support, no?

Yeah, it makes a self-evident god, but it also makes a trivial god to
which you do not ascribe intelligence or veneration. In short, it's a
matter that's pretty-much too trivial to consider.

Yes, exactly: you don't /want/ to be an atheist, you simply are!
I've been thinking about deism, and was personally wondering how that

It turns out that, well, apparently I wasn't too far off the mark. I
consulted the alt.atheist FAQ and found a different definition of Deism:
* Atheist: one who lacks belief in the existence of gods
1. Implicit atheist: one who hasn't heard of theism
2. Explicit atheist: one who knows that he is an atheist
1. Weak (or negative) atheist: one who is sceptical about
the belief in gods.
2. Strong (or positive) atheist: one who actively rejects
the existence of gods.
3. Agnostic: one who thinks we cannot prove or disprove the
existence of gods.
4. Deist: one who doesn't believe in a selfconscious, personal,
living god.
5. Freethinker: one who rejects all kinds of dogmatic belief.
http://www.mylinuxisp.com/~raymond/alt.atheism//faqs/onatheism.php
Thought it was important to bring new data in to the Light. But does
that mean that a deist doesn't believe in a god who could who created
the universe in a lab somewhere (or by our frame of reference, nowhere)?
Frankly, I haven't met a deist yet who volunteered any attributes of his
god, so I don't see how they could discount such a statement.

First of all, if my first post sounded like I was attacking you, I
wasn't. I honestly interested in the motivation behind deism.
Why would anyone want to be a atheist? Don't take that offensively, but
it sounds like something a theist would come in and say, and then

Sure, that's what I'd answer if a theist came up to me and said that.
But my question is...why would a God (damn capitals!) leaving the
universe alone be more reasonable than one that is actively involved,
or the absence of one?
I've been thinking about deism, and was personally wondering how that
works myself.
What if one thought of god (in the definition, should god be capitalized
as it is?)
hmmm.....I've been struggling with that one since I started posting. I
feel it implies adoration, and I lack that. On the other hand, it's
customary to write it like that.

Blah. Let's not go there.
Perhaps deism is /not/ reasonable?
I'm not sure...I'm just relying on that site because I simply did not
know the word until you came up with it.
To me, it seems like an invention for people that doubt theism, but
are not quite ready yet for the implications of atheism.
