To me, it means that someone will tell me what direction I should be
going in the body of Christ.
The reason I'm asking all of this is because 2 prophets have prophesied
over me in the past year. Both said that I should be preaching the
gospel. There is no way that these two prophets know one another.
However, in both instances, I was dating a girl who knew enough
information about me to possibly communicate something to these
prophets. A few weeks ago is when the last prophet prophesied over me.
I just find it very odd that what was prophesied over me was also
things that my girlfriend also said and knew about me.
What happened was that my girlfriend recently met another friend (her
name is Michelle) at her place of work. They have only known one
another for a few months. Michelle invited my girlfriend and I to go
see this prophet. So we all went together. During these few months
that my girlfriend has known Michelle, they have grown to be good
friends. I'm quite sure they have talked about me and my Christian
walk. Anyways, Michelle knew this prophet. And I'm skeptical about
whether or not she told this prophet about me and my girlfriend. And
the prophet prophesied to my girlfriend as well. I find it strange
that he knew things about my girlfriend such as her musical abilities
and how she should be doing more of this. This is something else that
Michelle knew about my girlfriend. So I questioned my girlfriend in
the matter, and it almost caused us to break up. At this point, I'm
very skeptical.
Also, as a side note, Michelle and a small group of people are starting
a new ministry. She has been asking my girlfriend and myself to join
their ministry. The reason I don't want to join is because I don't
believe the same as them. However, my girlfriend wants to join, but
I'm advising her not to. I believe she sees it as an opportunity to
play her music for a new ministry. This is something she has always
wanted to do. Michelle knows that my girlfriend wants to do this as
well. I believe my girlfriend is simply blind to the situation at
hand. I guess you can now see where I'm really skeptical in this
matter.
Could you guys just pray that discernment will fall on this issue for
myself and my girlfriend? Please pray that things will be revealed in
this matter. Thanks.

I don't think it takes a prophet to tell you to "Preach the Gospel". Read
the
New Testiment...it says the same thing in numerous places.
Overall, it sounds like a setup to me. These two prophets you speak of don't
sound like they fit the definition of "prophets".

What is the definition of a "prophets"?

I can paraphrase it for you. You can find a definition in the Old
Testiment..Deuteormoy I think.
A prophet is one that delivers a message from GOD. The measure stick of
proof is quite rigid. The message must be fulfilled completely, without err,
and exactly as GOD described the message. That would include any timing
portions of the message. Any descrepancy in the prophecy is grounds to
reject the prophecy as coming from GOD.

Do you KNOW the gospel? Do you know it so well that you practice every word
and experience it in your daily life? Do you know the Word so well that it
is ALL written on your heart and mind? If not, then why would you think you
should preach it?
Better yet, what are the credentials of these so called prophets? Have they
obeyed every word from the mouth of God? Have they repented of all sin, and
stopped sinning, making themselves pure, holy, righteous, sinless and
blameless to receive the Holy Spirit of truth, to be given the gift of
prophesy? Do they speak in tongues? If not, then they are not real prophets,
because speaking in tongues is the FIRST gift that provides the
manifestation of the Holy Spirit.
Trust me, if God really wanted you to preach the gospel, there would be no
way you could avoid it.

Doug,
It's an old Pentecostal saying. They are looking for a "prophet", I put
it in quotes because the only kind they'll find like this will be false,
to tell them something they will believe is from God.
What I don't understand is why they don't go to God themselves. That's
the only sure way, other than to wait to see if the prophesy is
fulfilled, to know that the message is from God.
I sure hope they don't look for his/her business card.

TRUE prophets do NOT prophesy over any one individual, but are sent from God
to provide messages for all. However, Prophesy is complete, since the Bible

I don't agree that all prophecy has been given from beginning to end.

This is true, but what would they possibly be prophesying about? You already
know what is going to happen until the New Heaven and the New earth is
established. You already know what is going to happen to the wicked and
sinners? You already know that the first judgment comes first, separating
the tares from the wheat, the wicked and sinners get destroyed off the
earth, all evil, authority, power and rule will be put down, the government
of God will be established, ordered and increased with justice, and Christ
will live and reign with the righteous for a millennium of peace,
thereafter, Satan is loosed for a little while, then the battle of Gog and
Magog occur, then Satan, the false prophets, hell and the dead all get
thrown into the lake of fire forever and ever, then the New heaven and New
earth come down from heaven. You already know what God expects and requires
from you, as well as the consequences for disobedience and the rewards for
righteousness. What hasn't the Bible already provided for future events, for
which prophesy is intended?

Doug,
Add to that the fact that there are instances of Prophets giving a

And all of those people were called to do great things for God. If this
individual was "called" for such an event, I don't think they would be
asking for a prophet to prophesy over them in a newsgroup.

Does anyone know where I can talk to a true prophet who will prophesy
over me?

I don't agree that all prophecy has been given from beginning to end.

Joel 2:28

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on
all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

Doug

Doug,

Add to that the fact that there are instances of Prophets giving a
prophecy to individuals in the Bible.

It does not say that would last forever. Great things
surrounded great events in the Bible and history tells
us, that the gifts came to a halt (with rare
exceptions), shortly after the death of the last
Apostle.

but exercises it. However, defective doctrine
and false faith ruin everything. Therefore, when
these are concerned, neither toleration nor mercy
are in order, but only anger, dispute and
destruction - to be sure, only with the Word

That's a copout, not a direct response.
Your logic states that the Bible is also
not finished.

If the matters of the Bible were finished...we would all have been through
