WORDS WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD
Trustworthy

To Know:
³By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that
through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world
because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature.² (2Pet.1: 4)
Our family rented a summerhouse on the Turkish coast fifty miles north of
the ruins of ancient Ephesus. We decided to visit the ruins on a Monday and
therefore the Saturday before we set out to reserve a minibus to take us
there and back. The minibuses operated out of a town twenty-five miles north
of us. The driver agreed to pick us up along the roadside Monday morning.
From the roadside we would be driven to Ephesus and back home that evening.
We sealed a verbal contract with only a handshake. Monday morning we waited
at the side of the road and at the agreed upon hour the bus appeared on the
horizon. The covenant sealed by the handshake proved to be as good as gold.
Our driver was on time and chauffeured us to Ephesus at the agreed on price.
We paid him on our way to the city. With the money in his pocket, the man
kept his word and waited all day to take us back home that evening. Again,
his word was golden.
Godıs word is golden. By covenant promises, God administers his kingdom. The
Lord promised Abram fame, family, fortune, and fruitfulness. All came true.
Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham, is world-known today. Everyone
whose faith is in Jesus Christ belongs to his family. Each believer has
eternal life and no greater wealth can come to anyone. The day will dawn
when men and women who owe their eternal selves to the grace of Abrahamıs
God will populate the entire earth. Who can doubt that Godıs promises are
precious and very great?
To Ask:
Father, words are cheap in our time. Many use words to tempt us in an effort
to twist our understanding of the world and ourselves. Grant us faith that
in the Bible we have a trustworthy word directly from you.
