Truth not confined to ideas

To Know:
³Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in
me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me
shall never die.² (Jn.11: 25,26)
We gathered around the cave where one day, two thousand years ago, Lazarus
shuffled out. After I read the story, my wife Miriam sang the Ballad of Mary
and Martha. We were at the one place on earth where the claims of Christ can
be discredited. It was one thing for Jesus to say, ³I am the resurrection
and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and
whoever lives and believes in me shall never die,² but it was quite another
for Christ to say, ³Lazarus, come out.² More than one religious leader has
left his or her followers stranded on top of some hill waiting for the end
of the world. Talk is cheap. Had Jesus said, ³Lazarus, come out,² and
nothing happened, the Bible would have been publicly discredited.
Christ lived, died, and rose in history. History separates Christianity from
almost every religion in the world. Jesus Christ lived and he still lives.
Anyone who turns to unite him or her self to the risen Christ by faith will
also rise from the grave. Some day Jesus will come back and call the name of
all who have called on his name for salvation. He is indeed the resurrection
and the life.
To Do:
The truth of God is not to be confined to the realm of ideas. It is to
inform the events of everyday living. One way to make our faith practical is
to contemplate how very much connected to history the ministry of Jesus was;
and then we will be as we walk by faith.
To Ask:
Father, please protect my faith from being only things I think about, and
not things I do.
