Two witnesses: who were, who are, or who are to come? |
Various opinions include the following "interpretations" as regarding the
"two witnessess" mentioned in the following verses from Revelation 11. What
views are held by posters in these forums?
The Law and the Prophets/Moses and Elijah
Elijah/John the Baptist and Jesus Christ
Two servants still to be revealed
Something else (please specify)

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a
thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are
the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of
the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their
mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must
in this manner be killed.
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their
prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite
the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have
finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless
pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which
spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their
dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies
to be put in graves.
And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry,
and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented
them that dwelt on the earth.
And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into
them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which
saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come
up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies
beheld them.
And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the
city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the
remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Consider this...
Between 6th and 7th Seal are the 144,000 Jews and the Great Multitude of
Gentiles.
Between 6th and 7th Trumpets are the Two Witnesses.
Patterns tend to occur a lot in the bible and in God.
Consider that Two can be Two types instead of just two in number.
As mentioned Jews and Gentiles.
As Testimonies, as Old and New Testaments.
Each Jew and Christian bearing witness of the events fulfilling the
scriptures prophecies.
But not everyone, just those who feel compelled.
Consider the peace treaty starting the final 7 years.
Many are waiting for it and when they see it they will bear witness.
But they will tell much more...
They will not fear for they will believe in divine protection and
inspiration.
Note Rev 12 where it says, and they overcame him by the blood of the lamb,
the WORD of their testimony, and they loved not their life unto death.
With completely NO FEAR, the flow of the anointing can flow best and even
those who seek to harm them, will have the anointing strike them like
lightning jumping to an opposite polarity.
And there is more on this for there is NOW LOGICAL PROOF that God is real
and this prophecy stuff is real and happening even right now.

I forgot to mention that...
Jesus said, he who wishes to save his life shall lose it, and he who gives
his life shall gain it.
The same principle is seen in Daniel 3, with the 3 thrown into the furnace
for not bowing down to the image of Nebuchadnezzar. They knew God could do
it, and said whether he does or not is up to him, but we will not bow down
to you. And so they were protected without a singed hair. And indeed it was
said an angel or even Christ himself was sent to protect them in the
furnace.
Apply this then to the Peace Treaty of Daniel 9:27, 11:27 and Rev 10, and
the temple of Rev 11, the two witnesses and then Rev 12, with the sign which
can be seen in astronomy at Jesus birth on Sept 11, 3BC (US datezone), 12 in
Bethlehem. That is one reason why it seems out of place, it is part of the
testimony, the astronomy sign of virgo clothed with the sun and the moon at
her feet.
And then consider the final 42 months away from the beast is at the end of
the chapter.

They're the two anointed, like the two witnesses to His first coming.

There's no reason to believe these could not be two literal prophets who
breath literal fire. 1) They die, and are resurrected, as literal
people are (Rev. 11), 2) they turn water to blood as Moses, a literal
prophet, literally did, and 3) the plain and simple statement of the
text is that this is what happens. Once you abandon this to
spiritualization, you can come up with any number of interpretations,
and that's literally what happens among people who spiritualize it.

do not fear God or we would DO what He has told us to do. In the first
five books of The Bible, we are given all of God's Laws, Statutes,
Commandments and Judgments. We should ALL be living in accordance with
God's Instructions EXACTLY as Christ-Jesus told us He was doing
(showing us BY EXAMPLE--John 14:6). Please review Matt. 5:17-19 for
yourself if you doubt this is the case. Pay particular attention to
verse 19, where He spells out how He (and God) will look upon those who
break His Laws/Commandments and teach others to do so (which would
include all "Christian" priests/pastors/ministers who teach free
forgiveness of sins ("all you must do is believe").
I hope this is helpful for any seeking the truth and taking the first
step to being truly humble.

You're right but wrong also. God is multidimensional in his thinking. The
two witnesses are also
1) The old and new testament
2) Elijah (who never died from the old testamanet) and John of Patmos (who
never died from the new testamant)
3) Maybe just maybe the Poms and the commonwealth and the Yanks although
this sounds too righteous for my liking, no humility there thinking you are
the chosen ones.
4) Maybe just maybe Michael and Gabriel will be the two witneses.
there are other examples, but you should never try to attach just one
meaning to one passage. The Bilbe has hidden meanings as well as literal in
many verses. AS always, use the Bible to explain itself.

God is multidimensional in his thinking.
Being in multi-deminsional-time, of all the possible futures, and pasts,
from every possible free-will choice which has, and or will ever be made, it
would be hard for me to picture Him thinking in any other way. We can keep
His hands pretty full with the surprise we are given the ability to throw
His way.

never died from the new testamant)
Questionable, as people have claims as to how he (John) died and where his
body is. But Elijah did die, when Herod's daughter asked for his head.

I know I have seen most of them fulfilled within my life-time, in ways which
most around me missed, even though they took place in plain sight.
AS always, use the Bible to explain itself.
I, instead let the Holy Spirit explain things to me, including the Bible,
the Bible is a book, with a cover, and paper, with ink on them.
It cannot move of its own power, it doesn't breath, think, or even truly
talk to anyone. Let alone "explain itself", and unless you know how to read
(interprete the symbols to form words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs and
etc. to derive a meaning) you will get nothing from it, but maybe as some
'good luck charm' in your rear car window.

1) It's Elijah and Moses. There is not guesswork necessary here. They were
seen with Jesus at the transfiguration.
2) Funny you should bring up Michael and Gabriel, since those are only
prophetic names for Elijah and Moses.

God thinks multi-linearly, but He is not nuts.
