UFOs and extra-terrestrials |
E.T. is here?
There have been a recent spate of UFO sightings. Most notable is the
one in Stephenville, Texas last November reportedly witnessed by
thousands. Governments in France, the UK and Australia have began to
release their classified UFO files to the public. Has anyone of you
had his own personal encounter? Do you personally know of someone who
has? Do you believe in the existence of extra-terrestrial life?
One latest estimate puts believers at 1 for every 3 people worldwide
from US presidents and Japanese ministers to the ordinary Tom, *****
and Harry.
All this is part of the prophesies relating to the New Age and the
expected return of Christ.

Not every "Christian" believes in the same things.
What did Jesus really teach?
By some estimates, better than 40 out of every 100 people in the world
believe that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. Yet, even in
regard to fundamental issues relating to their faith, each of the
believers holds opinions that differ with everyone else's.
So who is right? How well do you know Jesus, yourself? And how deeply
do you understand what he taught? Take the quick test below to find
out.
But no cheating now. Just answer truthfully according to how you
really feel. First, complete the test before you look up Jesus'
answers at the end. And prepare to be surprised.

I'll answer in my own way, thanks.
__ 1 We are humans and mere mortals, we cannot be a god.
Humans are an inherent part of what (for want of a better word) I might
as well call 'God' - as is everything else. But 'God' as I see it bears
little resemblance to the Abramic concept going by that name. Human
bodies are certainly mortal. I have no idea whether humans possess any
quality that can exist independently of a physical body.
__ 2 Jesus is the only son of God.
Jesus - if he existed, and I see no reason to assume that he did or did
not - was a man. Therefore, he was as much a 'son of God' as anyone
else; no more, no less.
__ 3 Being only human, we cannot be perfect.
Perfection is a subjective standard conceived according to our society's
ideals. Our idea of perfection has varied considerably over the course
of our history.
__ 4 Only Jesus can ever do the things that he has done.
I know what Christians tell me Jesus has done. I have no idea whether he
actually did those things or not, or whether he existed to be able to do
them. I have no reason to suppose that, assuming he did exist, anything
he did was beyond the realm of human ability.
__ 5 Non-believers won't be allowed to enter heaven. They must convert
to Christianity before they can be saved.
Non-believers by definition do not concern themselves with other people's
notions about the afterlife. One who 'converts' in order to enter Heaven
is one who already believed.
__ 6 Our Church elders are the best qualified to interpret the Divine
Teachings because they base their conclusions on the revelations given
to the Church and their age-old traditions.
Your Church elders are of similarly little concern to non-believers.
Their claims need be judged only by those who consider submitting to
their authority.
__ 7 We should censor and block all offensive programs, films,
pictures, thoughts and ideas from being shown or heard so they won't
corrupt or harm our young and innocent.
The jury is still out on whether or not exposure to certain materials can
corrupt our harm our young and innocent, or whether there are other
factors involved. Until there is a firm conclusion, we must rely on
common sense to decide what to expose our children to, and what to shield
them from. We would be wrong to ban everything, or to permit everything.
__ 8 Our observance of prescribed rituals and ceremonies, and the
offering of acceptable sacrifices to God will guarantee our entry into
heaven.
'Heaven' for me is a state of mind. I hold to no particular concept of
an afterlife, and do not expect to encounter a Heaven as described by
Christianity. Rituals and ceremonies can contribute to one's chances of
achieving 'Heaven' inasmuch as they can help to focus and tune our state
of mind. They are an individual, personal process of internal change.
They are not for the benefit of any god because gods have no need of
them.
__ 9 Power, fame and fortune are the true measures of success.
Success is also a state of mind, and it equates to happiness. One who is
truly happy and content with their life has been successful. One who is
not happy and content - or who is merely trying to convince themselves
that they are - is not successful. Power, fame and fortune CAN bring
success in that respect, although more often they promise it but do not
deliver. But there are many other paths to such success.
__ 10 Ignorance of the law will not save us from the consequences of
our bad decisions.
There are two forms of law: there is natural law, which we have no choice
but to obey; and there is human law, which in its ideal form we are
expected to adhere to for the benefit of our society. There will be
consequences if we disobey the latter. The former cannot be disobeyed.
__ 11 First, aspire for the riches of the world. Heaven can wait.
Irrelevant. The riches of the world are nothing. And one is either in
'Heaven' or one is not (see point 8).
__ 12 God will not forgive you if you do not forgive others.
God's forgiveness is irrelevant to those who do not believe in Him.
Forgiveness amongst humans, however, can bring freedom from bonds of
anger and bitterness, and therefore it can be of benefit to us.
__ 13 God does not want us to become victims of injustice, or suffer
from wars or natural calamities, or become sick or be poor or die.
'God' in my terms does not pay us any more attention than we might pay to
a single cell in a finger. Just as that cell is part of us, we are part
of 'God'.
The desires of other gods are for their respective followers to worry
about.
__ 14 Jesus already paid for our sins. By his stripes, we are healed.
We're sure to go to heaven if we will only believe him.
See point 2.
__ 15 Don't get mad. Get even.
Don't get mad.
__ 16 We should befriend only those wealthy and successful people who
can help us and not bother with no good bums and freeloaders or those
sick and disabled do-nothings who can't repay or help us, at all.
We should befriend those whom we can befriend and whom we wish to
befriend. We should treat with respect those we do not befriend as well
as those we do. We should do as little harm as possible to those who
treat us as their enemies.
__ 17 The voice of the people is the voice of God.
The voice of the Cosmos is the Voice of God. The voice of the people is
one small resonance within it.
__ 18 The great men of the world are regarded as great also in
heaven.
See point 8. Also applies to great women.
__ 19 God only knows. We humans are not allowed to know everything.
God-as-the-Cosmos 'knows everything' because all knowledge is a part of
the Cosmos. We have no way to determine what portion of the sum total of
that knowledge humans currently possess.
__ 20 Many are called, but only a few will respond to his call.
All are part of the machine, and all will inevitably do what they must do
to fulfil their function as part of that machine. We cannot be other
than what we are, and - as the song goes - what will be will be.

Thank you Midwinter for your response. Very good rational answers from
the materialist point of view. Christ agrees with you on some more
than you know. But unless you also consider the spiritual point of
view, the truth will continue to elude you.
Especially, Jesus agrees with you Andrew. We are spirits, we are not
our physical body. The verse you are referring to can be found in John
14: "He also said, 'All that I have done, you, too, can do.'"
However, the question was "What did Jesus really teach?" Christ gives
us his own answers clearly in plain English in his own words. They can
all be found in the link provided.
