Where's the bigotry?

The Romney candidacy has led to talk that many voters are bigoted
against Mormons. Mormons have experienced religious intolerance for
years, which absolutely runs afoul of U.S. founding principles. Yet
Mormons should not judge quickly.
When Mormon children call non-Mormon classmates "devil children,"
where is the bigotry? When "non-believers" move into a neighborhood
and are not accepted, where is the bigotry? When Mormons won't
patronize non-Mormon businesses, when Mormon-dominated companies
hesitate to hire non-Mormons, where is the bigotry?
George Lorimer, an early editor of The Saturday Evening Post,
stated, "When sizing up the other fellow, it's a good thing to step
back from yourself and see how you look. Then add 50 percent to your
estimate of your neighbor . . . and deduct 50 percent from yourself
for faults . . . and you'll have a pretty accurate result."
Everyone should be careful with labels and blame. We just might be
looking in a mirror.
