Was "Re: Clear, Level-headed discussion sought"
There has been some interesting debate going on over on my personal
blog - http://jacobmorse.blogspot.com/ - about the nature of
Christianity and Biblical interpretation. I'm a fan of open discourse,
and so I'd like to invite any and all of you to come read what I've
said. Please comment if you are so inclined.
Thanks!
Hello.
Sorry I don't have the time to do a lot of reading, but for me, the
nature of Christianity is that it is based on the Bible. 2 Ti 3:16,
"All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for
refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness." (NAB)
And Biblical interpretation is accomplished by praying to God for
guidance, as well as 'reasoning' on the various Scriptures, and their
context and Greek and Hebrew words, etc. Ac 17:2,3,
"2. And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and for three
Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
3. explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and
rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming
to you is the Christ."" (NASB)
Of course most of the Bible is easy to understand, and no
'interpretation' is needed. For example Mt 19:19,
"... Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (KJV)
Of course many churches in Christendom apparently lost that verse when
they participated and still participate in this world's wars etc. But
the true Christian religion follows Jesus' words to the letter. (see
Eph 4:5; Lu 6:46)
Sincerely, James
