Was "Re: Question on worshipping Holy Mary"
Can you explain me here, or give me a link to a relevant webpage on
why we worship Holy Mary and what is it based on?
I`m a roman-catholic and I would like to know, since I found a lot of
stuff about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but not about Holy Mary,
which is not accepted by some other christian churches as "holy", btw.
I saw a quite huge flamewar in google archives back in 2002 which i
don`t intend to cause again. Sorry if that happens again. I just want
someone to give me a brief information, or even better, citing an
official statement of Vatican on this matter.
Thank you!
Hello,
The Bible has the only real final "official" statement on the matter.
The Catholic Bible reads at Joh 14:6,
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me."" (NAB)
Although many Catholics (I was raised one) wouldn't agree with you
that they 'worship' Mary, they still pray to her as an mediator etc.
But as the Bible shows, one can get to God ONLY through Jesus.
Also, Jesus' hand-picked apostle Paul wrote at 1 Ti 2:5,
"For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the
human race, Christ Jesus, himself human," (NAB)
Thus according to God's word (not man's word), praying to saints or
Mary etc, is quite literally a waste of time, since the only way to
get to God is to go directly through Jesus.
Sincerely, James

And this all based on the unsubstantiated evidence that the Bibles are the
word of any god.
The 'evidence' is quite the opposite. The Bibles are nothing more than
myths, fables, contradictions
and impossible tales.

Billions disagree with you. You can believe what you wish - but that's all
it is - a wish.

Although many Catholics (I was raised one) wouldn't agree with you
that they 'worship' Mary, they still pray to her as an mediator etc.
But as the Bible shows, one can get to God ONLY through Jesus.
In which case, praying the "Our Father" or "Lord's Prayer" as Jesus
taught in Mat 6:9-15, is contrary to St. Paul's teaching. Jesus would
have us pray directly to the Father; a literal reading of St. Paul
would mean that we cannot do so.
Also, Jesus' hand-picked apostle Paul wrote at 1 Ti 2:5,
This was Jesus's hand-picked apostle? Odd, as they never met.
"For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the
human race, Christ Jesus, himself human," (NAB)
And as the Bible mentions in so many instances, having others pray for
us is of great benefit. Because he is the only God-man and the
Mediator of the New Covenant, Jesus is the only mediator between man
and God (1 Tim. 2:5), but this in no way means we cannot or should not
ask our fellow Christians to pray with us and for us (1 Tim. 2:1-4).
In particular, we should ask the intercession of those Christians in
heaven, who have already had their sanctification completed, for
"[t]he prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects" (Jas.
5:16).
Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In
the book of Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the
leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb,
each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are
the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer
to God the prayers of the saints on earth.
Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in
heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle
with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the
throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the
saints from the hand of the angel before God" (Rev. 8:3–4).
Thus according to God's word (not man's word), praying to saints or
Mary etc, is quite literally a waste of time, since the only way to
get to God is to go directly through Jesus.
Actually, you are quoting man--St. Paul.

Right, and Mary, Mother of God and Queen of Heaven, leads us to Jesus.
