Was "Re: Thou Shalt Not Kill"
Is that still in force that commandment, or did God repeal it just for
George Bush. I'm confused.

Hello,
Believe it or not, the Ten Commandments were but a part of over 600
laws (Mosaic Laws) all of which were of equal force and binding power
upon the ancient Israelites. But according to the NT, the Mosaic Laws
ended with the death of Christ. Col 2:14,
"having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was
against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it
to the cross." (NIV)
So then, does that mean that 'do not kill and steal' etc are all OK
for Christians to do? Only if they were not repeated in some way to
Christians in the NT. And all of the 10 commandments have been
restated in some way in the NT, except keeping the Sabbath. (which by
the way was punishable by death for breaking--see Ex 31:15) Paul
refers to the Sabbath and the festivals and all the other required
regular observances at Ga 4:9-11;
"9. But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how
is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which
you desire again to be in bondage?
10. You observe days and months and seasons and years.
11. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain."
(NKJV)
So to summarize an answer to your question. Even though all of the
Mosaic Law Commandments including "Thou shalt not kill" (Ex 20:13) has
ended, that law has been restated in the NT such as at Re 21:8,
" But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the
sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all
liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This
is the second death." " (NIV)
Thus those professing to be true Christians cannot murder and still
retain God's approval.
Sincerely, James
