What's absolutely impossible? |
Devotional Guide
For the week of June 11, 2006
TRUE TRUTH
What¹s absolutely impossible?
To read the Bible in one year, today Read: 1 Timothy 1-3
To Know:
³The Lord has mingled within her a spirit of confusion; and they have made
Egypt stagger in all her doings as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. And
there will be nothing for Egypt which head or tail, palm branch or reed, may
do.² (Is.19: 14,15)
Is all of God? Or is there an equal and opposite force in the universe
powerful enough to thwart the will of God? That was the question at the
heart of the book of Isaiah. Was God really God or did Israel need help
against their enemies from Egypt? In Isaiah 19 God tells his people what he
thinks of the strength of Egypt. Not much. Egypt will tremble at the
approach of the Lord. God, not Egypt, is what Israel needs. It is true for
us today. The Lord is sufficient. He is all we will ever need. That is the
great lesson that life is meant to teach us while it is still today. Let¹s
abandon all our Egypt¹s and trust in the love of the Lord.
To Answer:
Is God my provider or am I among those who speak of faith in the Lord but
strive to provide for myself?
Do we fight to keep the faith in the face of our temptation to doubt?
Are we accepting of the fact that God moves us to fulfillment through
faithfulness in the little things?
Are we comforted to know that it is absolutely impossible
for any finite being to know that there is no God?
To read the Bible in one year,
Saturday read: 1 Timothy 4-6
Sunday read: 2 Timothy 1, 2

He can't make a rock heavier than he can lift.
He apparently can't be nice, just for it's own sake.
He can't change his mind once he makes a promise - or can he?

Hello,
Can God do everything? The Bible says no. The Bible tells us that God
cannot do something contrary to His righteous nature. For instance
notice Titus 1:2,
"in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long
ages ago," (NASB)
But God can do everything else. So what about that "rock" situation?
Look at the wording carefully. The question is a trick question. It is
a paradox. It is really two questions linked together:
Can God make a heavy rock?
and
Can God lift a heavy rock?
The answer to both of these is yes. But by combining the two and
juggling a few words, we can end up with a paradox that logically
can't exist in the real world. It is a designed contradiction. We are
asking, Can God do something He can't do? (Can God lift up a rock he
can't lift up?)
A correct rewording of it so that it could exist in the real world
would be:
Can God lift up any heavy stone He makes? The answer is "Yes".
So don't be fooled by clever anti-God statements that try to draw you
away from God. Research the Bible for yourself, and see if it lives up
to its claims or not. 1 Th 5:21,
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." (KJV)
(if you want to discuss your other questions above, just sent me an
email)
Sincerely, James
