To Know:
³I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion men tremble and fear before
the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring for ever; his kingdom
shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end.²(Dan. 6:26)
We made a bad mistake. Our family spent nearly a month in Turkey but we
decided not to visit Pergamum. Pergamum was one of the seven cities to which
John wrote in Revelation. We were led to believe that the site was too
undeveloped to make the trip worthwhile. We waved as we passed by on our
bus, but that was a big mistake.
Only Ephesus excelled Pergamum in its ability to inspire awe. The massive
foundations that supported the temple of Zeus and the 16,000-seat theatre
that provided for everyone in the city in ancient times was staggering to
see. How many have made a big mistake in opting out of the kingdom of God
because they were given a wrong description? The enemy of our souls wants us
to believe that the reign of God is dehumanizing. He wants us to believe
that the Bible is so deformed that every interpretation is as valid as any
other. The king of Media Persia saw Godıs kingdom very differently.
Darius encountered an eternal kingdom. This was one that could not be
destroyed. The king of heaven had the power to rescue and to show himself
able by doing signs and wonders. This proof he had already offered by saving
Daniel from the power of the lions.
To Do:
If we have taken the word of others regarding the kingdom that Jesus Christ
came to inaugurate, then it is past time to turn to the scripture and study
the truth for ourselves. We do not want to opt out of the future because
someone has deceived us into believing that it doesnıt exist or isnıt worth
living for.
To Ask:
Father, open my eyes that I may see what you promise those who follow your
Son.
