³Then Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord¹s
message, ŒI am with you, says the Lord.¹² (Hag. 1:13)
Early in 1984 the first of a series of invitations to the White House began
appearing in my mailbox. President Reagan decided to brief national leaders
in denominational churches on government policies having direct moral and
spiritual consequences. At my first few briefings I was anonymous. No one
knew or especially cared who I was. That changed the day I arrived at the
White House with Richard Lovelace, a reputed scholar whose field was church
history. We traveled together and one by one Richard introduced me to White
House officials and Senate Chaplin Richard Halverson. Because Richard was
with me, my status in this center of world power changed.
Jesus Christ is on a mission to redeem the world. His charge is to make
disciples of all the nations on earth. John saw in his vision on the island
of Patmos that, ³the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord
and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever.² (Rev. 11:15)
Christ calls us to join him in his work. Because Christ is working his will
through those who have faith in him, we have every right to expect to see
him do through us what he did during the days of his flesh. The Lord himself
said, ³and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.²
To Do:
A man full of leprosy sought Jesus, ³Lord, if you will, you can make me
clean.² Jesus said, ³I will; be clean.² (Lk. 5:12,13) Let us will good for
everyone. Christ will surely be with us in that attitude of heart and mind.
