JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A first-grade teacher at Biltmore Elementary School is
charged with sexual battery charges, accused of raping a 15-year-old student
from Ribault High School.
Glenard Chapman
According to police records, Glenard Chapman, 28, allegedly assaulted the
girl after offering to give her a ride home from an after-school
flag-football game on Jan. 9.
Instead, he allegedly took her to his house, make her something to eat,
watched some TV, then raped her.
The victim said she did not resist because Chapman weighs 340 pounds.
Police said Chapman knew the victim because he was an assistant football
coach at Ribault. The victim's mother said Chapman coached her daughter's
flag football team last year.
"She trusted him," the mother told Channel 4's Nancy Rubin. "Me and my child
were violated. We trust in our teachers to be like second parents for our
kids, and for this to happen ... we just can't trust them."
Chapman had taught at Biltmore for two years and was a substitute teacher in
Duval County for two years prior to that. He is now on administrative leave.
Chapman was arrested Thursday and appeared before a judge Friday morning. He
is being held on $35,000 bond and was ordered to stay away from all
students.
The victim's mother, who Channel 4 is not identifying to protect her
daughter, said she wants justice for her family, and had this warning for
other parents:
"Don't trust nobody," she said. "All I can do is pray and hope God sees us
through, and he gets what he deserves for this.
