Yet another man made way to eternal life... Extreme Unction Ja. 5:14,15 |
" Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the
church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name
of the Lord;
and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick,
and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they
will be forgiven him. " Ja. 5;14,15

these verses have been reconditioned to allow those of reprobate
hearts a little comfort in their last moments of life to suppose the
Lord Jesus Christ can be passed around like mom's apple pie at
Thanksgiving.
the foundation of any works gospel is built on the fundamental
thinking that salvation is by righteous works; that God is subservient
to man; that salvation grace is invoked by doing good.
here we have the case of what is called " Extreme Unction. " it is
called " Extreme " because the person receiving the " Unction " ...
or anointing, is expected not to live through the illness befalling
him.
with receiving this extreme unction and Communion, the dying one is
guaranteed eternal life, Purgatory and Limbo notwithstanding.
though never opening his Bible once in his life, though falling at
the feet of his statues of Mary and praying to them, though not ever
being able to explain the gospel to anyone let alone understand it
himself, a dab on the forehead of olive oil from the local supermarket
is said to impart eternal life to the unctioned.
if this is the intent James has then salvation is indeed by works;
God's grace is indeed passed around by and only from those who worship
idols; think they forgive sins; never open a Bible nor can understand
the gospel which is the power of God unto salvation.
James is writing to believers ( Ja. 1:18 ) not idol worshipers. to
build a religion around the open worship of idols is to live in
blasphemy, spurning God's command not to ever do so ( Ex. 20:1-6, )
demonstrating an abiding deep rooted love for sinning against Him.
it is a certainty that the Lord does not heal everyone among the
faithful ( the faithful are objects of the Epistle of James, ) since
the cause of the ailment is undefined sin ( v. 15 c; v 16. ) as with
the many healings of bodily ailments performed by Jesus during His
earthly ministry, it can not be assumed that He healed their bodies
while rejecting the healing of the souls. Mk. 5:34
the remedy for sin is not in the olive oil, but in Jesus Christ.
the remedy for sin is not to invoke the help of idol... figures of
demon deities, for such only shows slave hood to Satan.
to " confess your sins one to another " ( v. 16 ) means to
acknowledge one's sins; to concur with the Word of God in His
judgement that what is being done is contrary to His revealed will.
this implies that the stricken one is aware of his sins and willing to
repent of them because he is convicted by the Holy Spirit... hence the
proverb " confession is good for
the soul, " and in the believers life, this is to amount to abandoning
his serving mammon by returning to serving God in Spirit and in Truth.
" There is no soundness in my flesh because of Thine indignation;
There is no health in my bones because of my sin. " Ps 38:3
" But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your
God, And your sins have hidden [His] face from you, so that He does
not hear. " Isa 59:2
