RFID Ushering in Age of Sensors
An expert at Intel Research says the widespread adoption of RFID will
mark the beginning of a new era in which computers anticipate the
needs of people and act on their behalf.
By Mark Roberti
Nov. 23, 2004—The widespread adoption of RFID to track goods through
the global supply chain will mark the start of a new era in which the
computers sense the world, anticipate the needs of people and act on
their behalf, according to Hans Mulder, associate director of Intel
Research, a unit of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel.
"We are on the verge of a vast increase in the spatial and temporal
fidelity at which we [measure] and analyze the world," he said,
speaking at Innovate 2004, an invitation-only RFID symposium for
thought leaders hosted by ADT Security Services last week in West Palm
Beach, Fla. "RFID is the stepping-stone to sensor networks."
Sensor networks consist of motes, like this one.
Sensor networks consist of wireless sensors that detect heat, light,
movement and many other environmental factors. Also known as motes,
the sensors gather data and transmit it from one node in a network to
another and another until it reaches a node connected to a computer
that can store and analyze the data.
Mulder said the problem with computing today is that, unlike with a
sensor network, people have to input most of the data and receive most
of the computer's output. "We are the primary I/O [input/output]
device, but we are the bottleneck," he said. "We need to get away from
the human-centric model of computing and connect computers to the
world."
He said that in the future, computers would anticipate people's needs
and act on their behalf. Some people might be uncomfortable with the
latter for privacy and other reasons, Mulder said, but he pointed out
that antilock braking systems are an example of computers that act on
people's behalf today.
There are several obstacles that need to be overcome before sensor
networks become ubiquitous, Mulder said. First, local and wide area
networks have to be enhanced to handle the vast amounts of data that
sensors would generate. New computer systems that can learn and make
decisions with incomplete information need to be developed. And the
sensors themselves need to become smaller, cheaper and more energy
efficient.
The prototype sensors that Mulder demonstrated at the ADT event cost
about $50—down from about $100 when RFID Journal first interviewed
Mulder in 2002 (see Sensors to Network the World). He said the next
generation would cost $25 and that the price would fall to $5 in a few
years. The devices communicate using Bluetooth technology and have a
range of about 10 meters (30 feet). Sensors could use other wireless
communications systems, such as ZigBee, which is based on the IEEE
802.15.4 standard.
One shortcoming of the current devices is the battery may last only a
few weeks or months, depending on how often the sensors are programmed
to transmit data. That means that a human being has to change the
batteries when they fail. However, some sensors today are able to use
energy generated by the vibrations or wind they are monitoring and
therefore don't need batteries. Mulder said someday sensors might even
be powered by nuclear energy (using very low levels of radiation that
would not be harmful to humans or the environment).
RFID has been used in closed-loop applications for years. But the
growing adoption of the technology to track goods in open supply
chains signals the start of this new era of computing, he said,
because RFID tags are basically wireless sensors that identify
objects. The widespread deployment of RFID technology is expected to
lead to the installation of more robust networks that can cope with
the quantity of data that a sensor can generate. RFID tags with
integrated temperature sensors are already on the market, and
researchers are working on other low-cost sensors that can be
integrated with RFID tags.
Mulder believes that sensor technology will transform the way
companies manage their assets. He gave examples of BP using sensors on
railcars and motors on an oil tanker (see BP Eyes New Opportunities
for more on the oil company's use of wireless sensors). Intel put
sensors on some pumps within one of its own semiconductor plants and
put sensors on grapevines in a California vineyard. Data was gathered
and analyzed to try to improve maintenance and, in the case of the
vineyard, ensure that the vines received the right amount of sunlight,
water and other things necessary to the vines' health and growth.
"It's all about productivity and efficiency," Mulder said. "Sensor
networks have a transformational power that could boost world GDP by
10 percent or more."

Revelation 13:11-18 (NRSV)...... Translated into our time by Martus!
The Second Beast(Second form of government)
11 Then I saw another beast that rose out of the earth; it had two
horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the
authority of the first beast on its behalf, and it makes the earth and
its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been
healed.
*Acts in proxy to the world government enforcing it's rules through
the electronic mechanisms of our computer societies. Seemingly
innocent but having the full force of the government behind it.
13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to
earth in the sight of all; 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to
perform on behalf of the beast, it deceives the inhabitants of earth,
telling them to make an image for the beast that had been wounded by
the sword and yet lived; 15 and it was allowed to give breath to the
image of the beast so that the image of the beast could even speak and
cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both
free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so
that no one can buy or sell who does not have the mark, that is, the
name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom:
let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast, for
it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred sixty-six.
*It is the reason why nuclear weapons hit where they do and go where
they are sent through this computer technology, this proxy Government.
Government will force a way of monitor all individuals through this
electronic means hence the 666 marks on those that comply and those
that do not denied services and killed!

You would do well to not write about concepts of which you know nothing.
RFID is insignificant compared to what already is and will be.
To "take" the mark of the beast or of God will not and does not infer or
require any physical action.
God will mark or not mark.
The "beast" will mark all others.
There are monitors right now in development that can tell by your brainwaves

Gas for our car is covered by the Chevron card. By the way, what's

In case you hadn't heard, there were MILLIONS of credit cards issued
in the 70s that had the numbers 666 as the leading numbers of the
account/credit card #. So many Christians complained that the banks
removed the 666 from the front of the card, but the 666 remains
embedded as the leading # in the magnetic stripe on the back.
If you were permitted (you usually aren't) to see the computer
printout when it scans your card, you'd see the leading 666 on your
credit card.
And in case you are wondering what human institution is represented by
that #, 666 is the"secret computer code" for .....
The World Bank
If you know anything about the World Bank (Brussels), those who built
it (including people I know) nicknamed the World Bank computer "The
Beast".
So every time you buy a paperback novel or a can of peas at the
market, and the computer scans the bar code (which also contains the
embedded 666, only that one is VISIBLE), the World Bank is keeping
track of every purchase you make.
Pick up a product that contains the full sized bar code (the version

mark at each end), and a second series of numbers with the longer mark
at the end.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF SURRENDERING LIBERTY TO GOVERNMENT SECURITY
By Tom DeWeese
November 24, 2004
NewsWithViews.com

Recently it was reported that Senator Ted Kennedy was prevented from
flying on commercial airlines because his name appeared on the federal
government's no-fly list. Now comes a report that another well-known
American, commentator Cal Thomas, has also appeared on the no-fly list
and consequently is harassed every time he attempts to board planes.
For Thomas, that's about a three-times-a-week occurrence.
Senator Kennedy had direct access to the private telephone number of
Homeland Security Director, Tom Ridge, so that he could demand that
his name be removed. Yet, even knowing the head man took the powerful
Senator three weeks to get off the list. Cal Thomas doesn't have such
access, so like the rest of us, he suffers while trying to get
uncaring, mindless, faceless federal bureaucrats to act and remove his
name.
His story is a warning for what the rest of us face if Congress enacts
National ID card legislation that is now on a fast track to passing as
the result of massive pressure to fully implement the recommendations
of the 9/11 Commission. Listen carefully, America. This is your
future.
In his column detailing his experience being targeted for constant
baggage inspections and body searches, Thomas tells of the horrors of
dealing with a government behemoth like the Transportation Security
Administration (TSA). "U.S. Airways gives me a TSA phone number to
call," writes Thomas. "I am not surprised when a machine answers. The
machine promises a ‘prompt' response. I leave a message. There is no
response. A few days later, I call again. Same recording, same
message, same non-response." Thomas, a determined man who knows his
way around government, keeps trying.
"I send an e-mail to the TSA. This time I receive an ‘automated
reply,' assuring me of a prompt response. Two days later, I receive
another e-mail informing me I will have to fill out a form to prove I
am not a terrorist." Keep in mind, Cal Thomas, American, has had to
endure all of this because the no-fly list is a front line strategy in
the fight against terrorism.
It didn't end there. Trying to take actions into his own hands, Thomas
volunteered to sign up for the TSA's "registered traveler" program,
which is touted as a way for frequent flyers to get to the head of the
security line. All travelers have to do says the propaganda is let the
government record their "eye print" and fingerprints, and deposit the
records into a federal database. Then, supposedly, the travelers can
be quickly scanned and sent on their merry way. Cal Thomas found out
the hard way that it just isn't so.
It turns out that the scan is only good at the airport where he filed
the application. So, even though he went through the trouble of
registering with the national TSA databank at Dulles International
Airport, when he tries to pass through the gates in Atlanta, he's
stopped as his name pops up again on the no-fly list. It seems he has
to register for the "registered traveler" program at every airport
from which he is flying. Meanwhile, he remains on the no-fly list
marked as a possible terrorist threat. At last report, Cal Thomas was
still waiting for a "prompt" response to his e-mails from the TSA.
This is not just a random experience. It is happening to thousands of
"silent" Americans everyday. Americans who don't have a national
newspaper column to report it; Americans who don‘t have Tom Ridge's
personal phone number to demand satisfaction.
The truth of the situation is that government should never be
entrusted with such power over our lives. It is amazing that all
Americans, for example, stand in government lines such as the DMV
waiting for bureaucrats to call their number, as we grumble about
surly, inefficient bureaucrats. Yet every time a politician offers a
new program which empowers the government with the ability to put us
in even more lines to hand out tax paid goodies, we jump at the
chance.
Take a look around you, America. Our nation is becoming less
efficient, less productive, less secure and less educated than any
time in our history. What is the common denominator in this equation?
Government has gotten involved in more and more of our everyday
routines.
Government cannot protect you from every danger. It cannot efficiently
run airlines. It cannot create meaningful, productive jobs in the
private sector. It cannot run efficient, affordable healthcare. It
cannot effectively protect the environment. It cannot provide a
quality food supply. It cannot adequately provide for you in your old
age. It cannot create energy. It cannot provide a quality lifestyle.
And it cannot stop the threat of terrorism by putting you in a
government data bank and tracking your every move.
It can and will smother you with rules and regulations designed to
perpetuate the growing power of government. That is what government
does. Americans must learn that lesson or suffocate. Your papers,
please.
