Listen to this one and why I hate cops the most. This girl I knew that
was sort of a friend in high school and three of her friends were
driving home from somewhere I don't remember exactly, but it was one
o'clock in the morning. So they're going to make a left hand turn and
they've got the green arrow for turning. So nobody else should be
entering that intersection, right? So they go to make the turn, and a
cop doing 75mph in a 40mph zone drives through the intersection plowing
into the girls' car. FUCKING KILLS TWO GIRLS!!! The girl was class
president and had graduated that year and voted most likey to succeed,
dead at 18. The cop is still a cop as least as far as I know.

A past deputy chief of police in Milwaukee caused a couple of accidents
while driving like she owned the world. No repercussions at all.
Over the years, off duty cops have regularly had their buddies shuffle them
away from accident scenes when witnesses reported that they reeked of
alcohol.
This stuff really pisses me off. I see cops violating traffic laws all the
time. Yet, as far as I am aware, they are not permitted to do so unless
they have either their siren, lights, or both running.
It's good to be the donut king.
We already have the concept of a citizens arrest. Why not a citizens
citation? We should be able to pull over cops doing 15 over the limit with
no lights or siren and write them a ticket.
9mm pistol? Please... I've got a .223 that will go through your vest like a
hot knife through butter. Now hand over that ticket book and get on your
face donut boy!

I totally agree with you. If the police are mandated to monitor my compliance
with the law, I think I should also be permitted to monitor their compliance
with the law. Indeed, I think it should be my civic duty to do so!

I don't agree with you on this point; I think that bearing arms should be a
privilege and not a right. But since we do live in different countries, with
different laws on this point, I think that we can agree to disagree.

No disagreement really. The right to keep and bear arms in America is just
a fact of life. Wisconsin voters were so nervous about the federal
government toying with the concept that we voted to amend the state
constitution to make that clear.
Wisconsin still has a law on the books that makes concealed carry of a
firearm a felony. But the state supreme court, as a direct result of that
constitutional amendment, has found the law to be in violation of the
constitution.
The law is void, yet they still charge people with concealed carry
violations. That boggles my mind. It's like no one is really in control
here.

Here in Oz you can't go walking down the street with guns and knives
hanging off your belt. Lock your guns away on your country property,
or be a member of a shooting club pretty much.
I've got access to a number of guns, however not really that
interesting. Shoot the feck out of a taget 10 or 15 times over
and its just sorta "yawn?" that's moments of my life I won't
get back, and should have done something more usefull,
like sitting back and relaxing.

Oddly enough there is no law against open carry of a firearm in Wisconsin.
But if you do it, they will cite you for disorderly conduct because "it
alarms the public."

Rotfl. Looks like standard hypocrisy to me.

Standard? Hell, I think it's a religion. The number of laws that contradict
each other is staggering in America.
But, to paraphrase Ayn Rand, once a government has created enough laws,
they ensure that no man can make it through the day with breaking the law.
They can then govern by fear instead of by the consent of the governed.
Not that the governed are innocent in this matter. You gather enough
self-serving idiots anywhere, and allow them to vote, and you will
eventually have laws that make every man a criminal.
What part of Germany do you live in, Thomas? If this keeps up in America, I

In Germany, it is very hard to get into a situation where you can actually
refuse to purchase health insurance. You are a member of a health
insurance, and you can change insurance companies, but you cannot

*BANG*
There, mein fruend, now you won't be needing any.
In America though, many employers who offer health insurance will force you
to accept it unless you can provide proof that you are covered under your
spouses plan.
Governmental force upon businesses is limited to larger company's. 50
employees or more if I recall.
But the bottom line is it's your health, it should be your choice. Many
young people opt for paying only a smaller amount for catastrophic coverage
and hospitalization. They pay for colds, flus, strains, sprains, etc, out
of their own pocket.
I like the idea of medical savings accounts.
The poor? Well, Maybe a little less spent on DVD players, game systems,
piles of games, and fashion sneakers, and they wouldn't be using the ER as
a doctors office.
There are always the truly needy of course. But then there are always the
truly charitable. Government charity? It's a joke. Only the worst doctors,
and even worst dentists, will even accept Title 19. I don't blame them.
When the government tells you how much you will be paid for your services,
I'd tell them to screw off also.

You are by default a member of some health insurance.
The only way to get out of that health insurance membership
is to join a different health insurance. (Again, leaving aside exceptions)

But I don't want health insurance!

Tough luck.

But the bottom line is it's your health, it should be your choice.

Not really. Because, if you somehow end up being
poor, somebody else will have to pay for your medical
treatment. Like, say, those fancy US laws such as
the 1986 Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act
which states that emergency rooms cannot deny patients
who are in critical conditions but have neither insurance nor money.
Why should the hospital (resp. ultimately those patients who
do pay their emergency room bills) pay for your treatment just because
10 years ago you decided that you do not want health insurance?

You are by default a member of some health insurance.
The only way to get out of that health insurance membership
is to join a different health insurance. (Again, leaving aside exceptions)

But I don't want health insurance!

Tough luck.

Sounds socialized to me. Or rather totalitarian.

They shouldn't have to. As I said, it's your health. If you take care of
it, fine. If you don't, you die. C'est la vie.
Otherwise, many hospitals are connected to church's in some way. They
provide free care to the indigent and raise the prices for everybody else.
I don't care for the extra costs, but it's their hospital, and their
charity, so they can run it how they wish.

It sounds like an excellent idea.
