Hey you,
okay, I am taking effexor (300 a day) (have been for six years) and now
doctor is cutting out zyprexa and substituting Gabitril for purposes of
mood stabalizing. I have no confidence it is going to work. Dose is
suppose to work up to 6 mg.
Zyprexa is causing me health problems (with legs) and no longer seems
to work as it once did.
I have been on everything to try to get off zyprexa - abilifly, Geodon,
a bunch of others as well as other anti-seizure (why the hell they try
that is beyond me).
I am anxious often to point of not being able to focus combined with
depression/sadness/grieving that leads to long periods of simply
sitting still and not living or accomplishing anything. It makes me
feel desperate. It is situational and chemical in that I am
predisposed, and recovery from breakdown never has been complete, but
if circumstances were different much of the melancholy would lift.
For what it is worth,
Rosena

Hey you,
Hmm. My friends call me "Nom," usually. You're welcome to join the
category :)

So it looks like you need a mood stabilizer? That makes sense. I've
often thought as much, reading your posts. You say you've tried
"everything" to get off Zyprexa. You mention these medications-
Abilify: A complicated antipsychotic, which manages to act as both an
agonist and antagonist for both dopamine and serotonin.
Geodon: Another complicated antipsychotic, acting as an antagonist for
dopamine and serotonin, and also an agonist for serotonin.
Zyprexa: An antipsychotic, acting as a dopamine and serotonin
antagonist.
What isn't clear to me, from your list, is whether you've tried mood
stabilizers that are not anti-psychotics, such as Lithium, Depakote,
Tegretol, Trileptal, Gabitril, Neurontin, Topamax, Lamictal. Which of
these have you tried? (OK, I'm curious to see if the Gabitril will
work for you. Let me know.) I'm particularly curious about Lithium;
it's a bit tricky, but generally thought very effective, and is quite
distinct from the others.
It does not look to me as if you suffer from anhedonia. (Anhedonia:
The inability to feel pleasure or positive emotions.) Is this right?
Finally, can you tell what Effexor is doing for you? For that matter,
is it doing anything for you? And have you found it more or less
effective than other antidepressants you've taken? (Again, please list
them, and the results you've observed.)
For what it is worth,
Much, thanks. Sorry to make you work so hard!
Rosena
