My best friend keeps giving up on life, and doesnt do anything to help
herself. She has diabetes *bad*, and I have done about everything I
possibly can to keep her going. It is really especially hard to let go
of such a valuable friend, when she is not dead yet, or (miraculosely)
not lost much of her physical health yet. We are talking insulin and
meds of all kinds, and still blood glucose off the meters scale high!
Mary has diabetes too, but not that bad. Diana has diabetes REAL BAD
and also has bad depression and pain too.
Sorry for my rant, but I just can not give up on my best friend since
1997.

That would be hard........
I am currently reading a book called 90 minutes in heaven by Don
Piper....it's about how he went to heaven and how he came back and blah
blah blah...Well the point I'm trying to make is that in it he says
that while he was laying in a hospital bed with a constant pain going
through his body (he was in a major car accident) he wanted to just
die..didn't want to live anymore....but a visitor and friend of his
said you just sit there and not do a thing, we'll do it for you, we'll
fight for you.....I find that strange because it's hard to fight a
fight for someone that doesn't want to fight to begin with.....

Being the associate of a diabetic who doesn't
follow good control practices is in some ways more
difficult and painful than being the associate of
an alcoholic.
I certainly will not tell you to give up, or discontinue
helping her. If you desire to discuss this more, pls
do so, here or via e-mail ( a---- at nyct dot net)

that's really awful. i know someone whose wife just died from
complications from uncontrolled diabetes. she ignored hers,
though, so in a way it was nobody's fault but her own what she
had to go through. unfortunately, her family had to share in
the horrible ordeal. at least she made it to see her youngest
daughter graduate, which was her aim.
i hope your friend finds something to help her.
