So, I have this last final paper to write. It is to satisfy "method"
requirement which is a paper about how one does history, or what doing
history is about, as opposed to a history paper. I decided to deal
with two books on abolition of purgatory in Reformation and Hayden
White's Metahistory which is about . . . well, about doing history as
doing art, and the thrust of that art shaping the narrative. Much on
Hegel, Nietzsche others. Point? I have done reading and thoughts on
tip of my brain but can't start the damn paper, not even to outline.
Something about history as act of remembering past, purgatory about, in
part, act of remembering the dead (the past) and the way we do that -
remember -- and what we think about past (meaningless or meaningful to
human life) as related.
I think I am no an acid trip without taking acid. Actually, missing
philosophy. But I know there is something neat here to write if I could
just get brain to function.

my remedy for blocked when essay-writing is to go back to the
mechanical basics. thesis statement, outline, conclusion. you have all
the material, it's just a matter of putting it together and hauling it
out.

i've had a slow day. the temp outside was 33C (92F). first hot day. i
had to go over to the school for a while. i took my bike. the public
transportation people did a half-day wildcat strike. i nearly got
killed by hordes of drivers who, insane with the congestion and heat,
wanted to knock me down and sqwoosh me into road pizza for being able
to move slowly ahead while they had to just sit there. by the time i
got home i was so gakked up with toxic air pollutants, i nearly passed
out. my throat hurt and i was dizzy.
i didn't have the air on yesterday because up till now it's been great
to have the windows & balcony door open and get the air and all the
music and downtown sounds from the street while cooking batches of
stuff and reading and such. but today i closed up and turned on climate
control, and roost up here in the silent, civilized sky of the 21st
century while the morlocks run riot below.
there's some immense, late romantic violin concerto on the radio, now
just amidst a 40-minute cadenza about 5 hours into the first movement,
and i'm reading posts and contemplating my "future" which doesn't look
like much, qualitatively or quantitatively.
tomorrow my son and his gf are coming for supper and i think i'll try
jean's recipe for cold cuke soup on them. and i think it would be
fantastic if you guys came over sometime. i'd be happy to cook, but
it's more fun when everyone pitches in with some nice vino going around.

Forgive me. I only laughed because it's amusing to see the way some men
perceive things in a way that makes them ***** all over their territory. And

If you do this bear in mind that it might be a bit thick for your taste
- you can add buttermilk, chicken broth or even water to adjust the
consistency. Buttermilk is quite yummy.
