@ I Love Jill Because . . .@ |
She is so so so good hearted. She always argues from a perspective of
mercy and charity, of not being judgmental of others in our smug
righteous ways when probably most of us (I can for sure) can find some
pretty intense demons in ourselves. Seems to me a lot of people missed
her point, her main thrust, the warmth of her heart that prompted her.
As an aside, my mama, a full blooded Italian born on the boat as it
entered New York harbor, was raised in a traditional Italian family
that was very prejudiced against Blacks. Also, as an American in World
War II, she tended to in the war years to be harsh in her judgment of
the Japanese. Now my mama was a warm, loving, good good woman. She
supported the Civil Rights movement with urgency in Berkeley
California, fought actively for all sorts of things in the 60s that I
won't go into but showed her sense of belief in the wrongness of
prejudice and the import of civic rights etc. and social too . . . but
when my mama got tipsy and also got in an argument and it turned to
something very small but bigoted, like -- I don't know -- someone on
welfare buying a bright new caddy on time -- little bits of her
upbringing came out and one would think she was a bigot. So too, if
tipsy and the talk turned to Pearl Harbor, she say those "Japs".
But this was baggage, stuff from living in certain times with certain
people and cultures and beliefs. One remark did not tell who she was
as a woman. Rather a lifetime of work, of flaws and virtues, of slips
in remarks when tipsy nad of active work to try to make the world right
told who she was.
Jill is right to my mind - humans are too too complex to judge without
knowing them - without a real keen knowledge of all their deeds and
their thoughts.
I love Jill for her charity.

I love that about Jill, as well... she's very sweet and
compassionate, but she's also at the same time very straightfoward and
honest and direct...
