I meet with my professor and sound like an IDIOT - I have been a
professor myself for nine years, taught incredibly complex nuanced
stuff, hosted academic chit chat cocktail parties, spoken at
conferences and had an excellent education . . .you'd think I could
appear like I had more than a pea for a brain, and more intellectual
sophistication than a hay
seed???????????????????????????????????????????
I HATE this - no matter how hard I work I never never gain any
refinement, polish, or nobility or intellectual or social manner and
grace. I get worse as time goes on not better. I sounded like a true
idiot and I am an imposter. I don't think I will ever get hired again .
.. . and I have a PIMPLE on my chin that makes me feel like a bag lady.

teach this summer but there is a break somewhere. I'd have to figure
money and all . . .but I will think of it as a good thing to do and see
if I could make it happen!

just a bad meeting. if you must, talk to your professor,
apologize for the meeting and say you must have looked like an
idiot. say you were having a bad day. at least then s/he'll
know that you're not always so tongue-tied.
i'm sure you've had some better meetings with your prof,
though, so this shouldn't be necessary.
you did great last year, when you weren't as stressed as you
are in school. you'll be there again. it's not really that
you're going downhill, so much as you're under incredible
pressure right now.
you're anything but an idiot. when school's done, you'll soar.

Aww Lisa - thanks. You know grad school is tougher than teaching for I
feel comfortable with material I do, done it for a long time but this
is a whole new ball game.
Also stress is a bit more than last year with Maria being with me or
under my supervision 24/7. Thanks so much for kind words.
