the right work. Toynbee on Dante is a classic! Dante's love for Beatrice is a
grand passion. He met her when 9 years old and was forever captivated. Though
Toynbee does not mention it, there is some scholarly debate about what
relationship they may have had when he was in his 20's (though both had married
by then).
Dorothy Sayers writing on Dante is really great too. It is fun to me that you
