I wondered. When chair legs like those
are authentic antiques, the guys on the
Antiques Roadshow actually quiver. The
legs are so thin that not many chairs
like that make it too long in life.

Gayle
I had to do some restoration work on them several years ago. They were
rather spooky creaky to sit in. You really worried if they were going to
collapse! They're still really not practical for daily use as they have
a kind of lattice thing on the seat that I'm not sure how to tackle. But
the frame is rock solid, bam!
The table that goes with them is beautiful wood but the table was just
really poorly designed. So as it sat over the years it developed a very
pronounced sag. It would have been nice if along the way somebody had
said "we should shore this up". However unless I go about setting up
some kind of jig to high-tech straighten it out over 25 years and then
reinforce it with carbon nanotubes and transparent aluminum... It's just
going to have to sit tightly collapsed as a nice tiny table for 2.

Nice hardwood floors!
Those are about a year old. It was a lot of work putting them in, but we
had to do something - the carpet was falling apart.

I did it back in my house in Minnesota it took us probably three days, not

We did the living room, the family room, and 3 bedrooms. Total time
would have been about 2 weeks although the job was done over about 6
months. I like the lighter tone of birch too.
The durability has been very impressive. They were finished with just a
regular Gymseal, water based so we didn't have to evacuate the house for
a couple days.
The kitchen floor (red oak) was refinished about 7 years ago with a
Glitsa floor finish. We moved into the yard for several days and did
some camping. I'll be interested to see how the surfaces wear in
comparison. The Glitsa has been amazing but not everybody is willing to
have the floor evaporating formaldehyde for a week.

My house was done primarily in Red oak with Cherry borders. The dinning
room was done with Red Oak and Maple and Cherry borders also had a little
design in the center where the table sat. My daughters dad owed me 15k in
child support when I had my first house built so to pay me back he put the
wood floors in, that's what he does for a living. I helped because I wanted
to learn how to do it.

My dad's major hobby was woodworking and he loved red oak. I've got the
house now so I probably own more red oak than any home in a 10 mile
radius! His sense of style was "engineer" so even though some of it was
put in a long time ago it still gets compliments - no awful 70s dark
paneling on the walls, heh.
I really love the "quality" of it all. I go to furniture stores and even
some of the most expensive stuff has a sense of finish lacking in
comparison. It's really hard to describe, but when you see a simple
drawer in a desk that looks like it probably took the day to
assemble...you still know that the fancy stuff make that out of the way
areas sturdy but designed to be built quick.
The old man was NOT quick about the pace of his projects but he ended up
building "himself" into the entire home.
