100 year old wal-mart greeter dies on the job |
(some time in the future:)
a 100 year old man died today while working as a greeter at a wal-mart
store. a customer said that the greeter said "welcome to wal...." and then
collapsed. the 100 year old greeter was pronounced dead at the scene.
his coworkers remember him as a loner who lived alone with a large number of
pet animals. he had been laid off from his cube job when it was outsourced
to india. since then, he had worked at wal-mart as a greeter.
the neighbors remember seeing "son of the yellow river", as he was called,
walking his old miniature poodle, called "siren". he also had a large number
of birds, reptiles, and amphibians in his tiny one bedroom apartment. "son
of the yellow river" never had any human friends, but all the animals in the
neighborhood loved him. the neighbors' dogs always wagged their tails and
gave him a friendly bark when he walked by. he always talked to them. it was
said that "son of the yellow river" could speak the animals' languages.
when asked about the secret to longevity, the "son of the yellow river" had
said that he thought it was getting lots of sleep and plenty of exercise,
not eating too much, and eating the right food. his diet included foods like
whole grain cereal, seaweed, and japanese mountain vegetables.
the "son of the yellow river" had never been able to afford to retire. he
barely made a living by working at wal-mart. he rented a small apartment and
took the bus to and from work. he rarely drove his old jeep any more, since
gasoline was too expensive.
his empty life and loneliness had made him depressed, and for a while he was
seeing a psychiatrist and taking antidepressants, but eventually he had to
discontinue the treatment, because his medical insurance plan wouldn't pay
for it. he somehow managed to pull himself through life, mastering enough
motivation to get up in the morning, feed his pets, and go to work.
as a posthumous award to their oldest employee for his long and loyal
service to the company, wal-mart said that they will pay for the funeral of
"son of the yellow river." the "son of the yellow river" had no known living
relatives and no friends. a sad story indeed.

the freedom to live in depression and be poor in the USA, what a life. I
can say I hope to live that long but I doubt it. I don't do all the healthy
things he did and I have asthma and miserable air to breathe. Maybe someday
I can afford an apt.

dumped the ashes of the jewish people in at Auschwitz, but I am not much in
the mood for research today.

the japanese mountain vegetables reminds me of something my grandmother used
to make. she would put a mountain of really yummy noodles on a plate. on
one third she would put sliced up scrambed eggs, on the other third sliced
up ham, and sliced up cucumbers on the rest. then she poured a mild soy
sauce through it. it formed like a river around the mountain,
