just found out (from the gp) that 105 /60 has consistently been my blood
pressure reading over the last few years. Apparently this is a very low
reading and there is little info on this 'condition'. Plenty on high blood
pressure (with it's associated health concerns)
i don't faint, don't vague out particularly and do exercise quite vigorously
semi regularly without petering out. Oxygen supply to the brain is an
interesting consideration and because i could do with any improvement in
mental functions, gingko and such like circulation promoters will be given
appropriate consideration
question. Has anyone any info or experience from BP on the low side? Curious
to know. There is mention somewhere on the web of a link to Alzheimer's but
nothing definitive. Wonder if it could be part cause of a propensity to
depression..

Chronic low blood pressure is called Hypotension. I have it as well. It
can be a common side effect from many different medications, including
anti-depressants and mood stabilizers. Both my family doctor and my
psychiatrist are keeping an eye on it but they told me not to worry about it
unless I start feeling light headed when I stand from a sitting a position,
feel faint, or actually faint. Added salt in your diet - as Gayle
mentioned - helps in that it causes you to retain water. The extra water
raises your blood volume, which in turn raises your pressure. You can
conduct your own search using Hypotension or Low Blood Pressure or start
with the following.

thanks for that
one site talks about what is considered to be 'normal' being
lowered. The implication (my extrapolation) is... that being
at the low end is actually preferred - to a degree. Either way,
there is a bit of a re-think going on apparently
105/60 is still low, but just outside the 'revised normal range'

Yeah. Seems better to be lower. I have a blood pressure cuff at home and
consistently read the same as you.
Both docs told me that in my case it is either medication related or a
naturally low blood pressure and not to worry as long as I have NO other
symptoms. Other symptoms - the light headedness or fainting - could mean it
is cardiovascular which they would then have to address further. But as
long as I'm consistently low and healthy they said to enjoy it.

That's a great blood pressure. In school we were taught 100-120 systolic
and 60 to 80 diastolic were within normal range. So you run on the low end
of normal. I wouldn't worry a bit about your pressure hanging out in that
range. Can I ask how old you are? Healthy young adults often run low end
of normal, if not below normal
Be well.

i am 50 - hardly young so it's not normal

I still wouldn't worry about it. Most docs would be pleased to have their
patients walk in with the low end of normal bloodpressure. Like I said,
it's still within the normal range. I would enjoy and take comfort in the
fact you don't have to be on nasty high blood pressure meds and look at many
of the health problems associated with HBP.
Those are good numbers, relax.
At least that's my advice.

It's cultural. We consider it normal to good. Europeans, et al,
consider it a treatable condition.

There's medication that can help to normalize bp (high or low), I would
check with your doctor or pharmacist. You could also check websites
like medline.com and see if there is any info.

Mine's about the same as your, solidac,
has been for most of my life, and I do
faint sometimes -- even when I was a

it, either, but my bemused doc once
suggested that I add more salt to my

Gayle

thanks for the tip
i actually introduced salt back into the diet
a few years back after leaving it out for ages
- thinking it was for health reasons
the fickle nature of 'current thinking'
starting using it again after realised
how much i missed it (savoury taste buds)
might step up the salt intake one notch now
