I hope ya'll don't mind if I vent a little of my frustrations of the last 18
hours. It's been an emotional roller coaster for sure!
I was playing Bunko with my monthly group of 20 ladies last night when I got
an urgent call from our minister that my husband had been taken to the E.R.
with a serious hand injury. He'd been up at the church working on building
a closet, and the skill saw he was using kicked back on him and nearly
severed all 5 fingers on his left hand. It was quite gruesome and quite
upsetting. I was so glad that I had the support of those ladies and that I
wasn't alone when I found out. They said a quick prayer and then a few of
us went straight to the E.R. At that point, I didn't even know if he'd
completely severed the hand or not. I just knew it was bad. By the time we
got to the hospital (20 minutes away), I had to run in the bathroom and be
sick. I felt a little better after that. Anyway, we spent 6 hours at that
hospital while they tried to track down a hand surgeon. They couldn't find
one who could come in in the middle of the night (this was a fairly small
hospital), so they decided to stitch his mutilated hand back together as a
temporary fix and then transported him via ambulance downtown to a big
hospital. All they did there was put it in a huge cast so he can't move it
and sent us home at 6:00 this morning and told us to call the hand surgeon
today and make an appt. I can't believe they didn't do the surgery right
then! He's cut through muscles, tendons, nerves and bone...you'd think
they'd want to take care of that asap! But they said it needs to have the
swelling go down somewhat and then they'll do the surgery 2 to 7 days later.
Ye gads!!!! We have an appt tomorrow at noon, so we will know more then.
Hubby is in quite a bit of pain and discomfort. I wish they'd kept him in
the hospital! Oh well. At least he's okay and it could have been worse.
But I tell ya I'm having a hard time being grateful for even that right now.
I'm exhausted and worried and stressed and depressed about it and I just
wish I could hit the rewind button and start the last 24 hours all over
again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fretting and feeling overwhelmed,

Best of luck to your both. I got an extreme anxiety rush from reading your
account. I can't imagine how you feel. Like I said, good luck to you both.

at the hospital they estimated he'd end up with about 90% mobility once he
goes through physical therapy. i guess we'll know more after the appt.
tomorrow with the surgeon.
it was scary for sure. i keep looking at him today while he sleeps and
tears come to my eyes every time i think how much worse it could have been.
i just pray he won't lose much use of that hand. he works with his hands
all of the time. he'd be desolate if he couldn't do it anymore. i guess we
all would, huh? <sigh> i'm trying to hope for the best.

church working on building a closet, and the skill saw he was using
kicked back on him and nearly severed all 5 fingers on his left hand.
It was quite gruesome and quite upsetting. I was so glad that I had
the support of those ladies and that I wasn't alone when I found out.
They said a quick prayer and then a few of us went straight to the
E.R. At that point, I didn't even know if he'd completely severed
the hand or not. I just knew it was bad. By the time we got to the
hospital (20 minutes away), I had to run in the bathroom and be sick.
I felt a little better after that. Anyway, we spent 6 hours at that
hospital while they tried to track down a hand surgeon. They
couldn't find one who could come in in the middle of the night (this
was a fairly small hospital), so they decided to stitch his mutilated
hand back together as a temporary fix and then transported him via
ambulance downtown to a big hospital. All they did there was put it
in a huge cast so he can't move it and sent us home at 6:00 this
morning and told us to call the hand surgeon today and make an appt.
I can't believe they didn't do the surgery right then! He's cut
through muscles, tendons, nerves and bone...you'd think they'd want
to take care of that asap! But they said it needs to have the
swelling go down somewhat and then they'll do the surgery 2 to 7 days
later. Ye gads!!!! We have an appt tomorrow at noon, so we will know
more then. Hubby is in quite a bit of pain and discomfort. I wish
they'd kept him in the hospital! Oh well. At least he's okay and it
could have been worse. But I tell ya I'm having a hard time being
grateful for even that right now. I'm exhausted and worried and
stressed and depressed about it and I just wish I could hit the
rewind button and start the last 24 hours all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fretting and feeling overwhelmed,

I am sorry to hear of your husband's accident and it sounds rather
incredible to me that they want to wait to do anything about it. I hope that
all goes well for him and he heals quickly and well. My thoughts are with
you and your husband.

Ay! My father always used to work with power tools. One must certainly
give them respect.
He hurt himself a couple of times, but never quite so bad. He's also
quite ill at the sight of blood...so if it happens you gotta get him to
the ground ASAP.
I REALLY am hoping that for your husband and you.

How awful, C. For whatever good healing wishes do, I'm aiming a bundle at you
and your poor hurting hubby.
