Perhaps Western values, for the past five hundred years, had been a
human distortion, perhaps competition was simply not compatible with
harmony, not conducive to human happiness, perhaps the competitive urge
came only from the exaggerated emphasis on the individual. Maybe the
individual was simply not as important as the group.
