18 hours to go |
I have a sleep deprived EEG tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 9am. I have
to stay up all night tonight. No coffee or other stimulants allowed.
It's just gone 3pm Monday. I'm exhausted already. I didn't sleep well
last night. I soooo want a nap.
I've left lots of housework to do tonight to keep me busy, and I've got
DVD's to watch. I'll probably be posting here lots throughout the night.
I was planning to mow the lawns today, but I bought a lawnmower, and
it's in pieces in the box. I'm sure it's not an impossible task, but
right now I don't have the energy.
I think I'll go for a drive now, while I still can. Gotta kill some
time somehow.
17 hours and 50 minutes to go

Nope, only the day off on Tuesday to have the EEG. I should get home
from the hospital late morning, then I'll be able to sleep for most of
the afternoon, wake up for a few hours and then go to bed early to try
to get a full nights sleep for work the next day.
I think my boss will understand if I'm a bit of a zombie on Wednesday
though.
I haven't stayed up all night since I was at uni. I'm going to do it,
but I'm getting too old for this.

Thanks Rhi. I doubt I'll get the results on the day. Most likely I'll
find out in a week or so from my GP.

yes! the really bad thing about staying up all night is that it makes you
feel so crummy. i get physically sick by morning if i've been up all night.
truly nauseated and sick feeling. that's the part i hate most. :/
i bet you can't wait til the test is over and you can sleep, sleep, sleep!!

I've filled the memory card in my mobile phone full of MP3s which I'm
planning to play very loudly through my hands free to keep me awake on
the train. I'm probably too hypervigilant (part of my anxiety) to fall
asleep on the train, but I don't want to take any chances.

LOL! I don't want to get stranded in Geelong!
When I moved to Melbourne for the first time, I got on a bus to go
shopping, and it was the right bus route, but the bus was going in the
opposite direction.
I decided to stay on it to see where I ended up, since I didn't know the
city, and I ended up in Belgrave! Luckily I was near the train station
so I was able to get myself home. That was an interesting way to spend
an afternoon.

Go for a big long walk. Weather permitting.
Do some low intensive excersise like gardening and listen to stimulating
music.

Weather is good here. I might go for a walk in a few hours, in the
early evening. It's a pretty safe neighbourhood here so I don't mind if
it's after dark.
I'm into most recent music, although lately I've had a thing for 80's
and 90's music for some reason. I'm listening to internet radio at the
moment. I just went and bought some decent speakers for my computer so
I can turn the music up louder :)

What's the EEG for, if you feel like saying? I've never heard of a

Hi Rose,
I'm undergoing neurological tests at the moment (had 2 MRI's last year,
now this) to try to get a diagnosis.
I was misdiagnosed with a mild form of epilepsy about 3 years ago, after
a sleep study and follow up EEG showed bursts of abnormal activity.
After 2 years of medication which kept stopping working, and the
beginning of strange tingling sensations on my head (most often) and
arms and legs, I asked for a second opinion.
My new neurologist says I don't have epilepsy, and he isn't sure there
is actually anything wrong with me at all. I still get the tingling
(although it stopped for a while), but he doesn't know if it's something
that can be treated, or if I'm just a bit weird neurologically. 5% of
the population supposedly have a naturally abnormal EEG which doesn't
require treatment, and the abnormality could also be a side effect of my
antidepressant.
This EEG is to get a new baseline of my brainwaves, now I'm off all the
anticonvulsants. Hopefully it will be normal, or close to, but if it's
not then hopefully the doctors will have some idea of what to do about it.
By being sleep deprived, it makes the test more sensitive. Just as
people with epilepsy are more likely to have a seizure if they're tired,
the EEG is more likely to pick up something if I'm tired. The previous
EEG I had 3 years ago wasn't sleep deprived, and it wasn't normal. So
it will be interesting to see if the problem of 3 years ago is still
there, and if it's better or worse now.
As for where I am, I'm in Melbourne, Australia. It's approaching
dinnertime on Monday here. I've just had a call from a friend who has
invited me out for dinner to try to keep me busy :)
I'll have a look at yahoo games when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion!
Kylie

Oh, wow, that sounds like a big deal. I sure hope it turns out to be
normal, or that they can at least give you a proper diagnosis.
Doesn't sound like fun, what you've been through...sorry :-(

who lived there. Have you lived there all your life? Oh, nice to get

I'm ok about it at the moment, but sometimes it has been pretty scary,
especially when the tingling first started and I was told it might be
MS. I'm the right gender and age (mid 20's) for an MS diagnosis, so the
wait until I had an MRI to rule it out was pretty terrifying.
I still have days when the physical symptoms act up badly and it's a
major trigger for my anxiety disorder. But as I said, right now I'm
doing ok.

Thanks for the compliment :) Kylie is a pretty common name here.
I've lived in the same state in Australia all my life, although in a few
different areas of the state.
My friend has just left, he is working from home tomorrow so he stayed
for a while to keep me company and so we could catch up.
Now it's almost 10 hours to go (almost 11pm). I'm tired already but I'm
determined to stay awake and do this test properly. I really want to
get an accurate result, whatever that may be.

Oh, wow, that sounds like a big deal. I sure hope it turns out to be
normal, or that they can at least give you a proper diagnosis.
Doesn't sound like fun, what you've been through...sorry :-(
I'm ok about it at the moment, but sometimes it has been pretty scary,
especially when the tingling first started and I was told it might be
MS. I'm the right gender and age (mid 20's) for an MS diagnosis, so the
wait until I had an MRI to rule it out was pretty terrifying.
I still have days when the physical symptoms act up badly and it's a
major trigger for my anxiety disorder. But as I said, right now I'm
doing ok.
Ahh, an Aussie eh? ;-) Excellent! Never been there but know people
who lived there. Have you lived there all your life? Oh, nice to get
the dinner invite...have fun. Let us know how things turn out
Kylie...that's such a pretty name :-)
Thanks for the compliment :) Kylie is a pretty common name here.
I've lived in the same state in Australia all my life, although in a few
different areas of the state.
My friend has just left, he is working from home tomorrow so he stayed
for a while to keep me company and so we could catch up.
Now it's almost 10 hours to go (almost 11pm). I'm tired already but I'm
determined to stay awake and do this test properly. I really want to
get an accurate result, whatever that may be.

Perhaps I should take a leaf out of Elegy's book and do a
blogathon....except I don't know how coherent I'll be in a few hours :)
I'm taking the train to the appointment - they specifically told me not
to drive. Not that I would have anyway, to me it's common sense, but I
guess someone must have tried it, so they remind everyone now.
My housemate will be on the train tomorrow morning too for 3/4's of the
trip in to the city. So at least she'll be able to keep me awake.

Yes, she's sleeping. I'm trying to be quiet, but I wouldn't be
surprised if I've woken her up when I'm moving around.

LOL, I looove 24, is it a rerun or a new one? You're doing so great!
Not much longer, less than 10 hours to go, you're determination is
inspiring.

We're up to Season 6, only a couple of episodes behind you. I kept the
last couple of episodes that screened here on tape so I could watch them
again tonight.
It's now midnight, so in nine hours I'll be having the test. I'll leave
for the hospital around 6:15 because I have to go right into the city,
change trains, and go out on another line. Allowing time to shower etc,
I have about 5 to five an a half hours to kill here at home.
