Hey, I'm new to the group, so Hi to everyone here!
Its nearly my 18th Birthday soon, and I have a small group of school
friends who I don't keep in contact with outside of school, because of
my complusive lying, I lied about having lots of other friends from
different schools, which I dont.
Problem is, I want to go out on the town and have a good party, but
have no friends out of school to do so. I could go downtown on my own
and try and have a good time, but Iam worried it will end up a failure.
The last time and only time for the last 10 odd years I went out to
someone else's birthday party, downtown, ended up miserably as I
couldn't get in to any clubs and when the opportunity arose to get into
a club (which I legally couldn't enter, but the friends I had once had
around me were) but my lack of confidence just gave away and I somehow
lied my way out of the queue, back into town and home. I then kept
second-guessing what could of been if I had the confidence to walk past
the security guard for the next six-months.
Plus I have the fact of my parents, who are another victim of my
complusive lying, think that I have lots of friends to party and get
drunk with, when actually I don't.
Question is: Should I make another excuse and stay at home watching
DVD's or movies or go on my own with little confidence and attempt to
have a party?

why not invite your school friends for a movie and dinner at
someplace you'd all like? then you could tell them that
they're your best friends, which is true. and your parents
won't worry about you going out and getting drunk.

Go out... and learn the phrase: "Hi, I'm a compulsive lier."
Sounds like a conversation starter to me.

It's just a fact. I'll leave the luring of 17 year olds into *this place*
to you in the future. You can be in charge of the welcome mat for
vulnerable teenagers.
No, don't take this totally wrong and "unsub". The thing is, if you can't
shrug your shoulders and not care if some completely anonymous usenet
character pokes you with a pin, you really should unsub.

I'm wondering, though - does Dale half-take me out to dinner? ;-)

Very true...I got my baptism of fire, so to speak, early on, and actually had
one of my newsgroup adversaries hitch rides from Raleigh to Houston so he
could have me arrested at work. Unfortunately for him, he was too clueless to
figure out when I worked, so he showed up at the campus police station at what
was effectively 5 AM in my day, and they were none too impressed by his
babbling, either. (It's likely still available on Google - look for David
J. Rasmussen at ncsu.edu back from about 1990 until May 1992...)

It's just a fact. I'll leave the luring of 17 year olds into *this
place*
to you in the future. You can be in charge of the welcome mat for
vulnerable teenagers.
No, don't take this totally wrong and "unsub". The thing is, if you
can't
shrug your shoulders and not care if some completely anonymous usenet
character pokes you with a pin, you really should unsub.
if a pin actually came out of my laptop and poked me, I would unsub.
if some people continue to have exlusive, clicky, highschool attitudes
about
"this place" (which has 'Depression' in it's title for a reason), and
they
are constantly posting strictly OT remarks, then they are trolls.
parasites. easy enough to ignore, or killfile. If this doesn't apply to
you, then disregard.
If I may, you are so right for ASD. You sound so much like all of us did
at various stages. First it's the no-one responds to me thing. Then it's
the stick up for anybody that has responded to me thing. Closely followed
by the fight with everybody thing.

Wait... seriously, I wasn't trying to be a ***** or anything, I was
serious.
If you know you're a compulsive liar and that's part of what's keeping you
from hanging out with people you consider friends why not tell them the
truth.
"Hi, I'm kinda' fucked up and sometimes I lie for no particular reason."
Compulsive lying is a mental disorder. Should it be hidden away like a
dirty little secret like depression?

Compulsive lying is a mental disorder? I tend to do a little bit of lying
here and there, it's like - Oh! I mailed that yesterday, and then make a
note to mail it today. Lying can be a convenient path of least resistance
or a cheap path to a more glamorous persona.
I don't know anything about the 'lying as a mental disorder' line of
thought, feels to be more like a backbone disorder. I know that when I lie
it's to avoid confrontation, almost every time. Usually it means I've
forgotten to do something and the lie prompts the guilt that gets me to
doing it. However, like I said, I haven't heard about lying as a mental
disorder, I'm a little suspicious of that. Maybe I should google.

I'm no doctor, of course, and I'm not attempting to make a diagnosis over
the net but there are some people out there that can't stop themselves
from lying.
It seems as strange to me as kleptomania but apparently it happens.

I had several run-ins/flings with this girl, spaced out over several years.
She was a big time, compulsive liar. It really affected every aspect of her
life. She used to be this slutty hippy chick, and we fucked around for
awhile, then she just dissapeared one day - she had a reputation for lying
and making ***** up even then.. ..ruined a lot of friendships. I ran into
her again, about five years later, and she seemed really cleaned up. I
completely bought into this front she put on. She made like she worked an
office job, good salary, well-dressed, had her life totally on track, under
control, respectable. We hit if off really well this time.. ..she told me
how she regretted losing me, that she had been intimidated by a friend of
hers, (who liked me), to leave me alone, and that's why she'd vanished. She
told me she was, and had been, deeply in love with me all this time. It
didn't sound quite.. ..sincere, or right to me. And the more I got to
re-know her, and hung out with the various groups of friends she had, the
more I realized she was a complete chameleon. She would hang out with a
total druggy crowd, and dress and act the part. And then she would go into
mommy mode for a week or two, (retreiving her kids from her dad, who was
taking care of them most of the time). And she would lie and cover up
things that I found out about later. I had to push her away.. ..and that
was easy enough.. ..she rebounded instantly. I was relieved.
It was this relationship that made me ultra paranoid of catching some kind
of disease.. ..and I didn't have sex with anyone else for over 8 months..
...lucky nothing happened
I know *everyone* has these multiple sides of themselves to some degree..
...but this was extreme. She was like, 4 different people.. ..and not MPD,
or whatever it's called now. She knew. But she was lying to herself too.
She didn't know how to stop it, I'm sure. The entanglement of lies had
become bigger than her. I think that's why she vanishes now and then. To
sort of, recalibrate, recollect everything. Try to start over.
She ended up dating/mind-fucking an old friend of mine, who suffers
schizophrenic tendancies. Worst couple ever. I stay *far* away from their
lives now... ..as bad as I feel for them both. I can't deal with that
much bs in my life, especially with ds around. He occasionally calls me
whenever they have a horrible falling out.. ..now I just screen my calls,
cuz the last time I tried to comfort him, he propositioned me.. ..which was
just.. ..a little unsettling.
