198 lbs!!! |
I bought a scale today. I expected my weight to be about where it was last
time I was at the doctor's office, which was perhaps a couple of months ago.
Then I weighed 180 lbs, already about 20 too much for my height (5' 7").
I adjusted the scale and stepped on it. Result: 198 lbs!!! :(((
I definitely have a problem.

Cut out sugar. Don't eat fast food. Check labels.
Make meals for yourself with fresh ingredients - you'll be much more
aware of what you're eating. Of course, cooking while depressed is an
adventure in itself, but getting your heart pumping isn't a bad thing,
unless you have heart trouble too. Home-made food usually tastes better,
too.
Lots of fruit is good - it's surprising how much you'd have to eat to
reach any calorie maximums - and it's fibre-full stuff. Vegetables are
good too. Lots of minerals and stuffed full of good-for-you ingredients.
Processed food has lots of sugar in it - it's cheap and makes food taste
nice so they'll sell more, and make bigger profits.
Left to myself, I eat a bowlful of meusli a day, and lots of fruit. I
drink lots of coffee, and my fat intake is almost entirely from
semi-skimmed milk - 2 UK pints (2.5 US).
I have to remember to eat something with salt occasionally - there's a
minimum level, as well as a maximum. My GP pointed out that too little
fat isn't a good thing either.
Cut out sugar, and the rest is moderation. I'm losing weight on my diet,
slowly, but that's supposed to be the best way, if you don't want to put
it back on again when you're at the right weight for you.

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Some of the medicine I take is well known for weight gain. You could
try eating more vegetables, and less starch. And when you eat a little
bread - avoid white and eat whole grain bread instead.

Yes, that is good advice. I think my main problem is eating too much
unhealthy snacks. If I could stop that, it would be a good first step.
