1st goal... (spoiler...boring) |
A. goal #1. lose 10 lbs by april.
B. okay, now to be more specific....
1) take 10,000 steps per day, at least. i got a pedometer for Xmas from my
17 yr old, so i'm going to shoot for 10,000 steps per day as per the
websites i've read. i managed to do that ONCE last week. one day i had
alot of errands to run, and they all included walking around in stores
and/or the mall, so i did manage it that one day. the rest of the time, i
walked a pathetic amount. one day i only took 1300 steps. that was the day
i was *really* vegetating. what this showed me last week is that I NEED TO
GET MOVING!!! i've managed 3200 steps so far today, but that's nowhere near
enough. i need to get outside and enjoy the warmth and sunshine by taking a
nice long walk. i'm curious how many steps a day i walk when i'm teaching
preschool. my classroom is upstairs, and so i do get some decent exercise
on those days, i'm sure.
2) obviously i need to eat less. my problem is stress eating. i've gained
5 lbs in the last 4 weeks because of the current stressors in my life. i've
got to stop turning to food for instant gratification. i also need to eat
less starchy stuff. there is a good website at discovery health that i'm
going to make good use of.
http://health.discovery.com/centers/nutritionfitness/program/program.html
hopefully i can implement some of the good info there and learn how to eat
in a more healthy way. :/
3) cut out sodas and alcohol except for *very* special occasions.
i'm sure there is more action i could take in this regard. perhaps it will
come to me as time passes.
C. scheduling time for my goal.
all FREAKIN day long!!! :)
D. positives and negatives.
positive: look better, feel better, be physically healthier, finding
healthier ways to fill the emptiness i feel inside, saving money...
negative: will have to give up the comfort of snacking; will have to give up
the drinks i love so much (i'm a huge dr. pepper fan; margaritas too); will
have to get used to that "empty" feeling inside until i can find healthier
things to fill it with; will be buying junk food less often (which feels
like a "loss" to me even tho it's really a plus)...
E. practice, practice, practice!!!

That's doable in twelve and a half weeks.

Ten thousand steps is going to add up to around ten kilometers, which is
possible, but don't jump into it and go for broke right off unless you like
sore legs. (Back when I could still pedal, after a week or so of not going
anywhere I had to make myself take it easy when I got back on the bike, so I
wouldn't be hobbling around after that first day.)

It may not be as hard as it looks now, because if you get that walking in,
that'll give you a little room to maneuver, so to speak.
3) cut out sodas and alcohol except for *very* special occasions.
i'm sure there is more action i could take in this regard. perhaps it will

A good idea, but there are diet versions that are almost as good as the fully
leaded ones (as far as the sodas go - Dr. Pepper is the leader of that pack).
Diet Rite has some good varieties, as well, and no caffeine or sodium.
C. scheduling time for my goal.
all FREAKIN day long!!! :)
You may fire when ready, Mrs. Gridley. ;-)
D. positives and negatives.
positive: look better, feel better, be physically healthier, finding

It won't be overnight, but with persistence, you'll start seeing the
difference (and there is decaf Diet Dr. Pepper, too).
E. practice, practice, practice!!!
Just keep at it, and you'll get there. Add my name to the group that's
pulling for you.

yes, i think so. surely!!! i just have to be persistant and not give up
too easily. i've done really well today. i'm up to 8600 steps (and i still
need to run by walmart for a few groceries, so surely i can get close to
10,000) and i've only had one sandwich so far today. i've not been hungry
at all, so i decided to take advantage of it and not eat.

i do like the new diet cherry vanilla dr pepper. perhaps i'll grab a 12
pack of those tonite while i'm at walmart. i wonder though, if i'd feel
better physically by giving up all types of soda. i dunno...

Wally World is definitely one place you'll wind up walking a lot, even if you
don't plan to. (That's been our experience, anyway.)

It wouldn't hurt to try and see what, if any difference shows. (Me, I still
want to go up 6 to Dublin and get *one* leaded Dr. Pepper from the bottling
plant there - cane sugar and all.)

my husband's grandfather used to be the general manager of the Coca Cola
plant in forest city, arkansas, and my hubby remembers that his granddad
would take him and his brother there sometimes and give them a coke right
off the assembly line. it was always crazy cold for some reason. he said
those were the best cokes ever.
i did get me a 12 pack of diet cherry vanilla dr peppers. no calories in
those, so maybe i can lose weight by subbing those for the "real" thing.
among other substitutions, of course. like substituting crystal lite for
those margaritas! :/
you gonna watch the "big game" tonight????

Next thing you know, you'll be on skates...and before you know it, you'll be
down into Travis County. ;-)

Of course...that was back when they used cane sugar and not corn syrup.
(Forrest City? I spent a night or two in a motel there as a kid, too, after
we'd moved to Texas, and I-40 was just starting to appear between Memphis and
Little Rock.)

You might could be on to something, there...if it works out, we'll need an
additional picture on the ASD page. ;-)

Probably a little bit, at least...I've never been a big fan of t.u., but I'm
definitely no fan of the University of Spoiled Children. ;-)

well, that picture on ASD is pretty much how i normally look. it's just
these pesky 5 or 6 lbs i've gained in the last month and a half that i'm
trying to get rid of. and besides, i just wanna be healthier if i can. and
i need to stop stress eating. i need to find other ways to find comfort.
ways that are healthier.

Also you need to stop stress drinking. BTW, alcoholic
beverages tend to have quite some calories.
As for losing 10 pounds, thats a lot of weight in case you
are really trying to lose the weight, rather than get some short
term effects only. 6 pounds in three months looks more like
a reasonable rate for somebody who is not really overweight.

well, since i gained 6 of it so quickly, i'm pretty sure i can lose it
quickly as well. it's the other 4 that refuse to budge usually. we'll see!

All attainable... I wish you luck, in the summer I can do it, during winter
cuz it get's darker earlier no way I don't leave my house. Though I suppose
I could run up and down the stairs at night. Hmmmm Where did your son get
that? I'm interested in finding one.
