....a daughter sitting at the bedside of her 91-year-old mother,
telling stories, trying to jog memories of their life together that
are disappearing from her mother's thoughts before her eyes. "Talking
into her ear is like talking into the end of a long narrow tunnel that
leads through darkness to a place I can't really imagine. What does
she do in there all day?"
