Al Gore for president! |
Gore's new movie, "An inconveniant truth", is really interesting
and informative, and it's done in a light, low key, fun, playful
style..., it was a very good movie... It makes you realize again, while
you are watching it, how much better shape the world would be in, in
all probability, if Gore was president now, as he certainly deserves to
be... Hopefully, he'll change his mind and run again... however, as
long as a democrat wins, things will chage for the better... A far left
wing democrat would be the best choice, but since they'd have a hard
time winning, we may just have to settle for a moderate democrat...
Hillary would be a good choice overall but I think her support of the
war may hurt her chances, and she is too polarizing in general, to win,
it seems, unless someone like Bob Dole, who has no chance to win, is
the republican nominee...

well, the way I look at it is, If someone sais "god bless you",
you might as well say "god bless you" back, or "thank you"... It

yes, sometimes it makes things easier to go along with other
people's views and concepts... but, other times, when I'm trying trying
to express my deeper beliefs, which I like to do often, it's better to
challenge those concepts... I do believe that we are members of the

It's hard to know for sure what your beliefs are... I do know for
sure that patriotism upsets me more then anything else... being for
"my" group(s) upsets me more then anything else... I'd rather always be
for the "other" group then for my own... though I'm happy to be jewish,
happier then I used to be about it... partly why patriotism,
nationalism etc... upsets me so much I think is that it seems very
traditional, old fashioned... and I think that upsets me partly because
I'm unhappy about all the conventional, old fashioned parts of
myself... I don't want to be conventional and old fashioned... I also
think a big source of the problems in the world come from viewing "our
group" as better then the "other group".... I don't want to support
that kind of thinking...

you're beliefs are what you feel in your heart ,
your own personal right and wrong ,
can you live with yourself if you do ,
will you regret if you don't do , weigh it out ,

the can i live with myself always wins

You're getting closer to a workable philosophy.
Yes, we are all members of the universe.
Yes, we are all human beings.
But we are all also members of smaller divisions. Everyone here, for
example, is a citizen of one insignificant little blue-green planet at the
edge of the Milkyway galaxy.
Though we are all human beings, some are male and some are female (and some
are born in between.)
We are not *just* anything. The greatest truth may be that as human beings
we can decide to an every increasing extent what it is we want to be.

I love him. Him and Jon are on from 11 - 12 every night here. I must
say I now prefer Colbert over Stewart but I love that hour of
television above all else.
It was funny the other night he was accused of being a French Canadian.
He set that ***** straight pretty fast. "I'm a french frenchian, not a
french canadian".

"Al Gore announced he is finishing up a new book about global warming

shouldn't chop down trees to make a book that no one will read."

No, it contains quite a bit of hogwash.
Just different hogwash to Bush's hogwash.
To put it in simple words:
- there is global warming
and
- there are more hurricanes
together does not imply that global warming
caused the hurricanes.

correlation does not imply causation. however, correlation should raise
some red flags and prompt further research.

There is no known statistical correlation between
the number of hurricanes, and global temperatures.
Also, its pretty easy to see that temperatures in, say,
Siberia, are not that much related to hurricanes
in the Gulf of Mexico.

i was agreeing with your first comment, in that a correlation between two
events does not imply a causal relationship between the two (in either
direction). translated into English, if you start seeing a warming trend
globally, followed by hurricanes, there might or might not be a link.
Also, its pretty easy to see that temperatures in, say,
Siberia, are not that much related to hurricanes
in the Gulf of Mexico.
now i half disagree with this part. are you familiar with sensitive
dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory (Butterfly Effect). stated
in English, tiny changes in input can cause crazy changes in output, in some
systems.
things at one point causing an effect on another point are actually quite
possible. now figuring out what causes what is a totally different matter.
time for insanity. relativity theory sets a limit on interaction between
two objects. due to things like gravity waves, you can actually have minute
changes in one system while another is millions of miles away, all without
the radiative effects of a star.
i don't have a PhD in nonlinear dynamics. :-)

Nobody said there was. The strength of hurricanes on the other
hand....
Warmer water leads to stronger hurricanes, period.

And what does this nonsequitor have to do with anything?
Folks, you've got to stop believing spinmeisters like this. As long as
you believe spin over truth, you'll always be a pawn.
One web site goes so far as to deny that Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse
gas.
http://www.renewamerica.us/analyses/050317hutchison.htm
"The burden of proof lies with those who claim that CO2 gas has a
greenhouse effect, because they have presented no understandable
mechanism or process that explains how CO2 gas in the atmosphere
increases heat on earth."
Check anywhere online about Carbon dioxide and infrared and you'll find
that CO2 absorbs strongly in the infrared and therefore traps the
infrared radiation that the earth gives off.
http://science.widener.edu/svb/ftir/ir_co2.html
These people are made up of active liars with vested interests and
those who have a political need to believe and support them.
