I knew a guy called Alan Parker (or Barker)... but he wasn't a

You should tell him then, because he's Italian (Alphonso Joseph
D'Abruzzo) and was born in New York city to a father who was grew up in
the very Italian sections of NYC and his mom was Miss New York.
She also later went on to develop intense paranoia, schizophrenia and
bipolar. ECT didn't work and that was about state of the art in health
care for her time, unfortunately.
I just finished his autobiography because I found it laying around and
had always been sort of interested in him. It was alright, the early
stuff about his youth spent with his parents traveling the country with
a burlesque show was the height of it.

If you ever see the episode where he's in Chile at the high altitude
telescope, keep a close eye on him. You can watch him get sicker and
sicker, and then a lot of that episode doesn't have him in it.
His intestines got all knotted up and he had to get an end to end
anastamosis.
