Object: All anybody does anymore is go buy *****
"We are now so utterly conditioned by our toxic living space. Think
about it: as I rot on my ***** in my shitty little apartment, I often
wonder: damn I'm bored....would love to go out and do something. But
what? All anybody does anymore is go buy ***** Why else would we leave
the house? No we wouldn't. The only reason to leave the apartment is
because you need a pound of coffee from Starbucks. Or Whole Foods for
organic produce (anti-union organic produce). Everything, everything is
based on shopping and buying *****! We are now so utterly isolated from
each other, like never before."

Above is a snip from a long letter I received from a fellow. He was
very detailed in his long litany of complaints with life. (a life as
most of us know too well) I can't say I argue much with his views. We
are all looking for inner fulfillment in outer possessions it seems. I
was on a forum called Internet Infidels, an atheist group. I was there
5 days before being booted out. Before I left, I posted on simplicity
and the response I received was amazing.
"Voluntary simplicity is crap"
"I don't want VS - I need electric"
"VS wont feed my cats or pay my heating bill"
and on and on. Lots of misconceptions and prejudice it seems with VS.
I have been into VS since 1996 and during that time I have had
continuos electric. VS wont feed the cats but VS will allow one to have
the proper number of cats they can comfortably have and care for in
their life. As well as a house they can comfortably afford to heat
instead of extending themselves too far by trying to keep up with the
Jones's.
VS crap?

hovel." Russell Cromwell.
Below is part of my response to this chap as well as some posts on VS
Even if low on $, you can get out and get walking. All it takes is
boots. You can get some for $5 at the thrift store. Thoreau said that
all good things are wild and free. Nature and peace is ours for the
taking, all we have to do is accept it.

i'm not exactly sure what you are "selling" here, if anything, but i don't
see the point to all the whining and complaining going on in today's world
either. we have so much and yet we appreciate so little.
the following is the philosophy *i* try to live by each day:
"I am Thankful"
For the wife who says it's hot dogs tonight, because she is home with me and
not out with someone else.
For the husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato, because he is home
with me and not out at the bars.
For the teenager who is complaning about doing dishes, because it means she
is at home, not on the streets.
For the taxes I pay, because it means I am employed.
For the mess to clean after a party, because it means I have been surrounded
by friends.
For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough
to eat.
For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the
sunshine.
For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that
need fixing, because it means I have a home.
For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means we
have freedom of speech.
For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it
means I am capable of walking and I have been blessed with transportation.
For my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.
For the lady behind me in church who sings off-key, because it means I can
hear.
For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to
wear.
For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I
have been capable of working hard.
For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means I
am alive.
And finally, for too much email, because it means I have friends who are
thinking of me.

Tried to save the trees
Bought a plastic bag
The bottom fell out
It was a piece of crap
Saw it on the tube
Bought it on the phone
Now you're home alone
It's a piece of crap
I tried to plug in it
I tried to turn it on
When i got it home
It was a piece of crap
Got it from a friend
On him you can depend
I found out in the end
It was a piece of crap
I'm trying to save the trees
I saw it on tv
They cut the forest down
To build a piece of crap
I went back to the store
They gave me four more
The guy told me at the door
It's a piece of crap
.
