Late November/Early December is usually our first snow.
We get snow that actually stays on the ground for at least a few hours two or
three times a century - last Christmas Eve, and the last one before that was
in January 1973. (At least I spent most of my first decade in Tulsa, where it
didn't snow a lot, but enough that I knew what was going on, which made the
1973 snowfall a fun time, while I was in my freshman year at UH.)

I wish that were the case here as well.
Once we get a good snow cover it's hard to get rid of it because the white
snow reflect the heat from the sun back out to space.
A bad winter is when we're covered for months at a time. By the time it
melts, it's an ugly dirt color. Luckily, our average winter isn't that bad.
It usually mostly melts in-between most snowfalls.

Sounds like around the 46th parallel, where the two Dakotas meet and my wife
grew up just south of - it's perfect in the summer, being the equivalent of
a/c outside to me. (In the winter, it's a different can of worms - I've only
been up there once in winter, and that was for my father-in-law's funeral,
fifteen years ago. It was a relief to get back down to Sioux Falls for the
flight home, and it was a balmy 1°C there...)

Sounds like you know how to do it. I watched folks around here last winter
(my first). To begin with, they don't bother to park in their garage. They
park on the street, so when the snow plow comes it makes a big mountain of
snow around the cars. Then the owners come out with a shovel and get rid of
the mountain that the snow plow made. That takes about 20 minutes (in sub
freezing temps with the wind blowing and snow blowing). Then they start on
the car, from the bottom! Well needless to say that by the time they work
their way to the top (another 20 minutes) they have another pile of snow
around the car that has to be shoveled again. Another 20 minutes. Of
course, once that is done you can guess what comes next....yep, gotta scrape
the car again because it has been snowing all this time! An on and on it
goes! Hilarious!
I'm Southern, I don't go out when it snows. I think there is a law or
something.
