another empty, meaningless day has passed |
when i'm at work, i often become completely absorbed by my work,
extremely focused, confident, and very productive, working by myself. i
almost feel happy. i can forget that i have nothing besides work to live
for.
when i'm home, it's more difficult to forget reality. sure, i'm glad
that i'm doing ok at work, because that will keep the paychecks coming,
but life still feels empty and meaningless. i feel like the greatest
loser on earth, the loneliest person on earth.
maybe if i could just get away from crapifornia, it would get better?

Reminds me of cognitive dissonance -- what ppl. do to get relief from
cognitive dissonance is to find a way to be distracted. For you it sounds
like work. For most folks it's the newspaper, or tv, or getting high on
coffee, or beers, or spectator sports... anything that works. To learn more

Incidentally, folks here in the midwest always think that if they could just
get out of the midwest and to some place like California... I'm not speaking
to you personally, but in my experience it's always someone who has a
personality that creeps out others; they assume that the fault must lie with
the others and that it must be the geographical location. Even really smart
ppl. think this. Astonishing. More than one kind of smarts, I guess.

Moving to leave depression behind is considered to be a Bad Idea. All it
does is give you somewhere new to be depressed in, and cost you money.
Oh, and lose you some more hope.

No, moving wouldn't help. It might give you a fresh start and exposure
to new experiences. But like Charles said, where you go, there you'll
be, and your problems are going to follow you. If you're open to
change, it couldn't hurt, even if it won't necessarily change much. You
don't seem to be at that state of mind though, IMO you have a lot more
to work on than simply which state issues your drivers license.
