I use ant traps too. They eliminated the ants in the kitchen (that was a
real ant invasion). They also removed the ants in the bathroom for a while,
but now the ants are coming back. Maybe I need to buy new traps. The old
bait may all be eaten.

That is probably why my traps don't work any more. I have used them for
several months now.

If you want a good treatment, go outside your house and check all
the entryways :windows doors, cracks, and even look to see if they are
trailing upwards into the fascia that may lead to the attic. There are
only a few species of ants that actually walk around the floor outside
and enter through a bottom opening (crazy ant, big-headed ant, trailer
ant, etc). I would have to check my notes and see if those ants are
spread around that part of the country. Also check all your trees (do
you have palms)? and bushes near and around your home, and treat that
with a heavy residual product, not raid or any of that junk. After you
do that trim all branches and bushes that touch your house, (ants use
these as bridges to enter your property. Spray all the windows and
doors real good. And don't forget the bushes and trees and vegetation.
The ants are probably foraging on these locations and then entering
your house in search of water (if it's dry season, or running away
from water if it's deluge season in Cal). I have no idea cause I'm in
Fla. But all ants that you see inside the house originate from
outside, so with a good outside treatment you should be able to get
rid of them. You have to do a detailed spray though and leave no bush
untouched.By poisoning their food supply you force them out of your
property. This is a strategy I use in my company. It works good with
people too....just kidding. Like the other poster said, diazinon is
good, but it stinks like the devil and it's already out of the market,
the liquid form would be very hard to find since they don't
manufacture it anymore. They're only allowed to sell it if it's in
stock already. Try Talstar, it's odorless (half or 3/4 ounce per
gallon of water. Termidor is the best, but you'll need a license,
unless you have a friend in the bussiness. Also, some of these ants
are nocturnal, you may want to go outside and see if you can trace
their trail at night. Take a flash light and check all the points we
discussed. Best time is one hour after sundown.
If this doesn't work, you'll have to pay my plane fare to Cal. to
do the job myself...just kidding.

That would explain why they come into my bathroom. There cannot be much for
them to eat in the bathroom.

Thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, I rent an apartment, so I cannot
do anything on the outside of the building. I don't think the landlord
cares, since I see ants in many places outdoors on the property.
By the way, the ants have left my bathroom again.

Yes, ants have a tendency to disapear and reapear according to weather
conditions. If you can't do much outside then maybe you could bait
them with "Terro", see if they pick it up. They will if they're sugar
eating ants but will bypass it if they are looling for proteins
instead, or simply looking for water.
