Anxiety/Panic Attack or side effect / something else |
Hi a few months ago I was admitted to a hospital and diagnosed with
schizophrenia while in there I was given Haldol (Haloperidol) and started
having these strange occurances that can last for over an hour where my
heart starts racing and I feel like I`m going crazy and little things upset
me like ambient noise - I feel like I`m gonna do something crazy.
I can't relax I find I just have to lie down and ride it out - I usually
take a lorazapam which seems to help but sometimes it doesn't and I just
have to ride it out for a few hours.
Anyway after I stopped taking the Haloperidol these attacks seemed to stop
then lately I have had my Risperdal Consta injection upped from 25mg to
37.5mg and during the transition they gave me 3mg Risperdal oral medication
to act untill the new injection dose takes effect - they give me these for 3
weeks after the initial injection was increased and I have about 4 days of
meds to take now untill I stop the oral.
Anyway since the first night I took the oral Risperdone meds I started
having the attacks again and the last one happened yesterday - when I
mentioned this to my doctor he suggested an ECG but then decided against it.
I don't feel as though its a heart problem but is related to my meds as I
used to get them quite a lot when I was on Haldol in hospital. Could it be
then I`m getting them becuase of a high dose of Risperal ie the 3mg of oral
+ 37.5mg of injection or could there be another explanation.
Its really horrible when it happens I feel like a pyschopath.
.

Have you discussed this with the doctor that prescribed Haldol for you?
*****, *****, *****, Hell...
I'd be back in that mother-fucking office so quick,
they'd have to repair the doors and elevators,
due to apparent hurricane damage caused during my entrance
to said facility, the doctor's office place, where it's located and stuff,
you know?
I won't say what my personal reaction and resolution is for this situation,
merely from the simple fact that my doctor is right there listening to my
situation when I come back in for reassessment on the meds situation
what's causing me so much grief.
If I had what you're experiencing, I'd've been knocking on the doctor's
office door the very next day, if not today..
If any of that made sense, PLUTO REALLY IS A PLANET AFTER ALL!!

I don't know what causes this, if Nom reads your post he might be able
to weigh in here. I just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone.
Haldol did the same to me on all three seperate occasions that I was
given it, so I am careful to let them know I react negatively to it when
asked for allergies.
I've had no problems, myself with risperdal though. Hopefully you'll
get some insightful replies as to why the anxiety related symptoms to
these meds for you!

Yeah its really bad it feels like a panic attack (but no hyper ventilation)
I get a bit paranoid of the noises around me but am most concerned with the
rapid heart-beat and the feeling I`m going crazy. The pdoc doesn't seem to
have ever heard of this or know what causes it and the only thing they can
give me is Lorazapam which seemed to work yesterday but hasn't helped much
on previous occasions (its supposed to work in 15 mins). I`m really worried
about slipping into another one of these instances soon when maybe I`m not
at home or something and don't have people around to support me.

expierienced it as well ? Sorry if you were annoyed by my cross post but at

I'd get one of those portable heart rate monitors that attaches to your index
finger and it runs on small batteries. Like if your normal heartrate is 70-80,
then after the meds, it jumps up to 110 (that's what it would be after climbing
5 flights of stairs), you'd have some numbers to ***** to your doctor about. But
be careful, these sensors have a habit of counting heatrate at double rate, so
if it reads 160 instead of 80, you need to readjust its position on your finger.
A long time ago, Radio Shack used to sell a biofeedback monitor. You don a
wriststrap that has a wire connecting to the unit, and you wear an earpiece or
headphones connected to the unit. The unit would make a whinning noise based on
the resistance of your skin. The more you were stressed, the higher the pitch;
the lower the stress, the lower the pitch. I found that just visiting a college
campus and SEEING groups of people walking towards me would send the pitch on
this unit way high (of course, I was used to thinking that anybody I met, or
anybody they knew, could be carrying a gun and would shoot at the drop of a
hat). I could not control my stress around people, but at least it made me
sonically aware of how stressful being around people made me.

They give haloperidol routinely in hospitals. My partner tore a strip
off the doctor because they gave it to her father who had a heart
condition. He went nuts on it, babbling, confused and angry. She made
them stop using it and all was well.
Of course if you are babbling, confused and angry or just 'not right'
on the drug, then we can all put that down to your self-confessed
schizophrenia and dismiss you and your reaction to the drug as simply
another crazy reacting bizarrely to normal drugs...?

You are too late with the apologies. I was sitting in my chair when all
of a sudden I was attacked. I began to panic. Someone said that I was
being attacked by my panic. Once I knew that, unknownst to myself, just
been attacked by my panic I could go and swallow a handfull of pills to
stop me attacking myself. I am still picking my teeth of them. I had to
put a bag over my head to stop hyperventilating. Later I made a little
hole in it so I could smoke my pipe. And all I did was press send.

been attacked by my panic I could go and swallow a handfull of pills to
stop me attacking myself. I am still picking my teeth of them. I had to
put a bag over my head to stop hyperventilating. Later I made a little
hole in it so I could smoke my pipe. And all I did was press send.
so your bint is a hole?

Perhaps you are more of a receive person. Try pressing the receive
button next time, or if that does not work well for you, pull the
receive button. Next pull the send button. If you are still having
problems try clicking the receive and pushing the send buttons at the
same time.
There are a lot of combination for pressing, pulling and clicking
these two buttons, in combination or in series. You might also add
holding down one while pressing the other. Lots of combinations. I
would calculate the possibilities for you but my calculator is set in
the scientific mode instead of the stat mode right now. Next week I
should be able to help more. Give me a shout then. I'm not for sure
which news group I will be in so cross post it to all of them. It will
not be your fault since I told you to do it.
Be well,
HoP
