Anybody else use GAIM/trouble connecting to MSN? |
It crashes on me when trying to connect to MSN networks under Windows,
and I've read a couple other people having the same trouble. They also
say Adium does it. Running a bit older version of GAIM 1.2.x on my
Debian Linux Sparc box has no problems (hooray Sun!). I've removed the
actual MSN IM client from all my Windows boxes...so not luck there.
I strongly suspect that last round of updates broke a lot of *****. I
just haven't heard much of the backlash because I haven't had the time
or energy to.
FYI: If you're under Win2K and trying to get update for the Windows
Defender, you need to install the root update thing in the
"non-critical" section of Windows Update...if you're receiving the
"cannot find on disk %1....insert disk %3...that crapola.

Same problem, but I've noticed that GAIM works fine on Linux... So, are
we sure that is a protocol change?

Yea, just started today too. Linux is trouble free, but I'm also running
v1.2.1....I'll update it and see if it's still happening. I can connect
to all the other networks still. What a damn pisser.

GAIM works fine for me, but I'm not using it under Windows.

MS threw a huge wad of updates out a couple of days ago, but it's been
something in the last 24 hours that they did.
On my Ultra 10 it ran fine with both 1.2.1 and then I built and replaced
that with 1.5 for testing and it ran fine too. A patched libmsn.dll
that's got me up and running again on Windows.
