the first part of today was boring - not very much to do because i was
waiting on other people to finish their tasks. some people are incredibly

i had a bad feeling today because it seems like a not so productive
person
is supposed to take over some of my work, and i'm not aware of any new
assignments for me. if that person takes over my work, what am i supposed
to
do? i also noticed that several coworkers were unfriendly, for no
apparent
reason. the fact that the company is hiring too many new employees isn't
encouraging either.
late this afternoon, someone finally almost finished a piece of work that
i
need to complete one of my tasks. he finished enough for me to make some
progress on my task. i stayed later than usual to take advantage of this
rare opportunity to get something done.
it seems like where i work, productivity isn't rewarded. what counts is
how
many and how influential friends you have. that is the only explanation
why
some average performers always get praised and rewarded by management:
they
are outgoing, sociable people who have made many friends. i will never be
fully appreciated, because most people don't like me. even being more
productive than almost everyone else may not be enough for me to keep my
job. as a matter of fact, being too productive is a good way to make
enemies.
also, having a boss who doesn't have the technical knowledge to
understand
and appreciate my work isn't good. having anti-war opinions (and
expressing
them through bumper stickers on my car) is probably not very popular
where i
work either.
<end of rant>
So what are you going to do about these things you talk about here?
there is not much i can do to change my situation. i'll just keep doing a
good job, and hope for the best.
