Best friend moving |
This guy is the best friend I have ever had in my life. For the last
six years we have done everything together. But now, he is getting
ready to move back to California and I am moving to Tampa, FL.
Things will never be the same - I'm sure we will always be friends, but
there is a loss of immediacy. We won't be able to hang out together
like we did. And the fact is, we probably will never see each other
again (Yes, I know we can visit, but let's face it - one or two visits
is all it will probably ever be before we both get too busy to do it).
The sad thing is, I can see how it'll go - we will email back and forth
for awhile, maybe make calls to say hi. Then it'll recede to just
christmas cards every year, then we will be busy and forget that as
well.
If there was ever a time in my life that I could have frozen, it would
have been when we were hanging out at his place or mine every day.
Everything else about that time in my life I hated, but I would have
put up with it just to keep him as a friend.
I hate this... He's the closest friend I have ever had in my life,
almost like a brother.

I here 'ya. My best friend who I have known for over 20 years moved last
month. She is the God Mother to my daughter.
She only moved 1 1/2 away, but she used to be only 15 minutes down the road.
Not as far away as your friend though. I am sorry this happened. Do your
best to keep in touch as much as you can.
Take care

i'm sorry, furby. when my best friend moved in 1992, i slipped into a
severe depression that i've been battling off and on ever since. granted,
there were other factors involved as well, but her move was the proverbial
last straw. it was like a light switch had gone off in my head. she
remains my best friend and soul mate after all these years, but the distance
makes it more difficult for sure.
hang in there...i sure am sorry and i sure understand.

No they won't be the same.
You'll have the memories, but
the change will hurt.

The thing is, I know how it will be - even if I visit or he visits, we
will never go back to the level of friendship we had. It will be a
friend visiting, not like it was when we were hanging out every day.
I just feel totally lost and alone right now - I know it isn't the end
of the world, and that I'll find other friends. But I'll never find one
like him. How come, when you get to one point in your life that you
enjoy, things can't just sort of freeze that way?
