Oh god. This reminds me of the time someone had sent me a big bag of See's
Candy chocolate and peanut-butter lollipops and I gave those out. We started to
see the same people coming around 3 and 4 times.
This year I have Twix and Starburst so far. I'll get some chocolate bars and
some lollipops. (Little kids seem to like sugary fruity things more than
chocolate things. Is that right?)

depends on the kid! I personally always liked the chocolate best but my
sister liked the sugary fruity things best.

I'll just make sure I have plenty of both.
We can always eat up any chocolate leftovers around here, and I'm sure I can
palm the others off on someone. (I suppose it's a no-no to give them to the
food bank.)

You should email them and ask!

That's a good idea. Or maybe I'll just drop off a bag of real groceries and
include the candy; they can always throw it out or eat it themselves.

(sp: long-winded rant ahead)
Don't rightly remember the best (although I had a weakness for Zagnut
bars.) Maybe time to re-visit some of the more baffling candies kids
never wanted to get.
1. Mary Janes--Do I have to say more? Like honey-flavored linoleum
fragments
2. Slo-Pokes--Every expensive bit of dental work I had done as an adult
was due to these things: A caramel sucker with the same half-life as a
radioactive isotope, you could spend a week trying to eat these things
and you wouldn't finish. You could win a battle singlehandedly without
bloodshed by dropping a ton of slo-pokes in enemy territory. They would
surrender readily after trying to subsist on these and incurring
lock-jaw.
3. Black Jacks--like soft caramels with the cream fillings, they were
instead a curious combination of black pink and white taffy with a black
licorice flavor. They looked like some exotic fungus and we kids ate
them because we didn't know any better.
4. New Era Potato Chips--Did every neighborhood in The United States
have a ninety-year-old lady who gave out a snack-bag of New Era potato
chips? I can't even find them in stores now, but our elderly neighbor
seemed to have an inexhaustable supply. They either went stale or were
reduced to dust by the time we got home.
5. And lastly, the obligatory apple--Who cares? Seemed that whatever
people didn't want, they'd dump it off on the kids. Brother, can you
spare a Hershey Bar?
